I’ve been waiting for the Psvita port of Ikemen Sengoku for a long time, that’s why I started playing immediately, as soon as I received my copy!

I just recently (can we consider 1 year recent?! Kind of) got interested in historical games and I’ve never got a chance to date actual figures of Japanese’s history, so I admit I was fangirling even too much when the characters first appeared and introduced themselves.

The plot seemed very basic, they didn’t bother at all to find a decent reason for the time lapse… it just happened. Normally, this kind of lazy writing would bother me a lot, but since it’s a mobage port I was expecting something like that and I just tried to ignore it and focus on the characters.

Let’s not even talk about how normal it seemed for everyone, when she revealed she came from the future: everyone’s reaction was literally “oh, ok. Not a big deal” and they weren’t even shocked! (most of all, no one thought the heroine was crazy, which would be totally understandable).

Since it’s an historical game, I was expecting a lot of wars and strategies, but… it was very different from my expectations: military tactics are almost non existent and there aren’t many fight scenes either. There are rapid changes of scenes and magically the battle is over.

I started with Nobunaga, since he seemed the main guy.

Well, I admit I got what I expected from him: he was basically a dictator, he just ordered and everyone had to obey; heroine included. It was a bit irritating at first, but he eventually got better and their relationship was kinda cute. Even if the route was short, I could feel involved and I honestly wanted them to be happy together, somehow.

Hideyoshi was disappointing, since most of his route was about him saying “I’ll die for Nobunaga!” and “my life has no value other than fight for Nobunaga” or stuff like that.

I wanted to see more cool sides of him, it’s a bit sad.

His oniisan attitude was nice, but not enough to make me fall in love.

Shingen’s route was way more interesting and it also made me feel various kind of emotions: it made me laugh while he was desperately hitting on the heroine, it was sexy when bed scenes happened and it was also sad when there were serious talks.

It was a perfect mix of various feelings, I enjoyed it a lot! Obviously, as the whole route, there were facepalm moments here and there, but overall it was nice to play.

Masamune was my best boy, no doubt about it. He made me scream like a fangirl, which haven’t happened for a long time! His straightforward attitude always made me surprised, I couldn’t predict his actions and I thought he was kinda forceful in a sexy way (??) I don’t even know how to explain my feelings properly, which is a good sign since it happens only when I really fall for a character.

(am I the only one who can’t explain exactly the reason why I love some characters? I swear I can’t describe at all my feelings, when they get deeper).

Kenshin’s route was very different from my expectations, but it was way more interesting.

When I met him in other routes, he looked like a cold and scary person: I thought he would be very difficult to make him fall in love, and I expected him to act rude with the heroine for a long time, before starting to melt and eventually become slightly kind.

But reality hit me really hard.

He revealed himself to be possessive and scary, basically a creepy, yandere character who was ready to kill anyone who dared to touch his woman.

Wow…… this is not the character development I was looking for, but I can’t deny I was hooked.

I won’t forget this route soon.

Ranmaru’s route was good and I enjoyed it a lot even if I’m usually not interested in shotas.

I was expecting a lot of childish scenes and typical “I’m a man too!! don’t call me cute!!” moments, but it was deeper and more emotional than I expected: his past and his struggles made me feel really involved, I was very curious to see his final choice; the ending was great too.

I’ve never thought I would be able to see a villain in a completely different and more personal light, it was a weird sensation, but somehow fulfilling.

Sadly, Yoshimoto’s route was boring to sit through: I didn’t find his attitude charming or sexy, it was just like dealing with some kind of emo, who just accepts his destiny of sadness an enjoys drowning in melancholy. His obsession for beautiful things to heal his pain was a bit annoying too.

Ieyasu’s route was surprising: I thought it would be a pain to handle, since I’m really bad with kuudere and I can’t understand them nor get interested; but this time, I truly enjoyed getting to know him deeper, behind his cold expression.

When he started to admit his feelings and he became jealous of Kenshin, I was fangirling so hard! (this scene somehow made me love Kenshin even more, I can’t help it).

Anyway, it was a perfect route to complete this game with a great mood.

Well, it was a long ride, but I’m done.

It was completely different from my expectations: I came in for Sengoku wars and all I got was fanservice, but I can’t complain in the end.

There were other characters who definitely needed a route, like Sasuke and Mitsunari, but I’d gladly play Mitsuhide too. (who cares, you know I’m trash for awful men). Sadly, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to, since if they exist, they’ll be just for the mobage. But who knows?

I’ll take a little break from historical games for a while, but I’ll play Hana Oboro when I feel in the mood!
