SPECIAL GUEST REVIEW: Black wolves saga

As promised, this time I’m bringing something new to my blog: a guest review!

This review is written by a friend of mine who doesn’t play otome games, even if I’ve been trying to bring her to the dark side for 3 years now: she just played a few routes here and there, but she never completed a full game; actually, she even dropped almost all the routes she started.

But I knew she could have liked Black wolves saga, because this genre is more similar to her tastes (she likes bloody anime), so I told her: if this game can’t make a miracle happen, I’m going to give up. Seriously, if you hate this too, I won’t try to make you play other otome games, I swear!

I wanted to share her opinion, because I think it can be interesting for fellow otome gamers like me, to know what an “outsider” may think of Black wolves saga.

This game has become a classic, since it’s famous in our fandom for the despair it brings; but most of the people still love it, and it’s not difficult to understand why.

I consider it one of the best games I’ve ever played in my life, that’s why I was really curious and excited to hear my friend’s opinion.

If you are curious too, here it is!

Hello everyone!

I don’t even know how to write a decent review so I shall start begging you to forgive me for this crappy comment! (AND FOR MY BAD ENGLISH)

First of all, I have to say that I didn’t play all the routes, of course. For now (o forever?) I’ve completed only Mejojo’s route (good ending) and Auger’s bad ending. (I think that intertwine theur routes was clever).

Maybe I should try to give a superficial comment on everything, also because I haven’t seen every part of the game since I played only Mejojo, it wouldn’t be right.

I am not part of this world but I can easily understand that bws isn’t a common otome game. First of all, the theme, very dark and gothic, nothing new (for anime or for what I watch usually) but in the otome world full of doki doki maybe is revolutionary(?). Sorry if what I’m saying is wrong, but this is how I imagine it.

The common route was very VERY VEEEEEEEEERY LONG I WAS ALMOST ON THE VERGE OF DROPPING IT but then somehow I grew interest in Zodiva and Auger. YES AUGER (will I ever play his route? Dunno).

The development of Zodiva as a real disease catch my attention because I wanted to verify that all the things said about it were right (I’m almost a pharmacist like Zara so I was very curious).

The plot is very organized and developed and I appreciated it, some other games/anime prefer graphics or else to plot.

At first, when my friend showed me the CGs of this game I didn’t like them, I was used to Satoi’s style! But now I change my mind and I like Kuroyuki’s style too! (I’m still laughing at the blood on the screen though).

I also appreciated the sound effects of burning fire and screaming people during the Wolves’ attacks at the villages and the descriptions were so detailed that I could clearly see the scenes like I was there too.

Fiona’s torture wasn’t that disturbing, I’ve seen crueler scenes of torture…
PLOT 7/10

And now the characters:

Nesso’s love for Fiona was illegally insane but he’s an oniichan so it wasn’t surprising! But when I was by his side I felt like he could really protect me T_T
Arles was a pitiable character, nevertheless it was funny seeing him embarrassed when he talked to Elvira, he was like another person! But Mejojo’ll never forgive the person who stole everything from him, his pride won’t allow it and we know what happened after that. Arles’s revenge was justified but he counted only on his physical strength. Bad move.
Julian’s smile cheered me up now and then, but when he showed his true self I felt bad for him and also felt betrayed, he lied to Fiona and the others and they even brought him with them wtf?! I would have left him there. AND WTF HE RETURNED AT THE CASTLE SORRY BUT HE KNEW WHAT HIS BROTHERS COULD DO, HE DESERVED HIS DEATH. I don’t have a kind heart, sorry.

And so that was the same ending awaiting his garden: burned to the ground. It was a touching image.

Zara, Guillan and Rath were just bystanders for me.

Mejojo and Auger’s reviews will be out later, maybe?

That’s it. I’m not good at reviewing as you can see, but I hope you enjoy a different point of view!

Dynamic Chord Kyohso

After the shock I suffered while playing Liar-s, it took me months to finally gather the courage to play Kyohso too.
I’ve started with Yorito first, because he looked like the main character.
He’s the typical playboy we’re used to see in the Dynamic Chord series, but he didn’t force the heroine, he was just flirty with her; and that’s a good start.
Also, I really appreciated to see him showing his fragile side and asking for help, it made me really develop feelings for him.
Some scenes were really romantic, and I was surprised to see how nothing “too sexy” didn’t happen soon, but it was just for the endings… is this honeybee black? Really?
I have only a complain, but it’s very important: the encore.
Why writing such a boring scenario, with the heroine being jealous and that misunderstanding going on for so much time? At first I was bored, then I got angry.
It was such a waste of time and good character! any romantic, funny or sexy scenario would be ok, but not this please! Also, that other girl looked exactly like him, the situation was so obvious from the start! (Even if I thought she was his sister, while she was actually his mother, who looked like she was 30!).
Anyway, he was a nice character and I also enjoyed his route.
I love Morikubo in this kind of roles and I’m glad he has been chosen as the vocalist of Kyohso, this makes me love their songs even more.
Yuu’s route was a bit different from my expectations, and it was quite shocking for many reasons: I expected some kind of family issue, because it was obvious that he was related to Crow (they really look alike), but… wow. That was really too much.
I won’t talk about his past, it would be a huge spoiler; but what was the heroine thinking, when she accepted to “help him”?? I mean, she was basically a slave… I really don’t know how that could happen, it made me angry and sad at the same time.
I liked him tho, he’s just a nice guy with a terrible childhood; he really needed some kind of help and I’m glad he learned to love himself and the others more, in the end.
Tokiharu’s route was…… irritating.
I don’t know how to explain it, I didn’t hate him in the end, but… there was a shocking event right in the beginning, which changed my opinion about him drastically and I couldn’t trust him the whole time.
As usual, the heroine’s reaction was absurd, she forgave him immediately like it wasn’t a big deal!
I know I should be used to this by now, but I still can’t watch something like that happening, with no consequences for the offender.
Even if you are good looking and famous, no means NO.
Anyway, I’m glad he got better later… but it was too late for me.
Overall, I really got angry at the heroine!
Isn’t she 23? How can she be so innocent and naive? Girl, you can’t go to a man’s house alone, if you don’t know him very well; you shouldn’t also drink there; and you can’t trust people so easily.
Really, where did she grow up? Her parents didn’t teach her these basic things when she was little? Doesn’t she have some common sense? I guess not.
Anyway, this was probably the sexiest route: they had sex so many times, I even got bored in the end! I love Tachibana’s voice, but… I was tired to see so many similar scenes all over.
Shinomune’s route was really interesting, because he had a girlfriend and I honestly friendzoned him from the start, while playing the others.
So I was wondering: will he cheat on her? that would make me feel bad, because she seemed a really nice girl and I didn’t want to betray her trust.
I liked the writer’s decision, it didn’t make me feel guilty and it didn’t change my opinion about the character as well, it was the best choice.
This route honestly felt like an oasis in the desert, because at least for once I didn’t have to worry about the heroine being raped or offended in any way.
I grew to like Shinomune a lot, he’s so mature and reliable… I’ve never imagined I would like him so much in the end, I’m glad I played the Append disk for him!

Would I recommend this game?
It’s obviously better than Liar-s, but still quite irritating sometimes.
I’m starting to get tired of stupid heroines who forgive every kind of abuse…. I hope the Apple polisher game will be better, I really wish I could enjoy it like I did with Reve parfait.

Amnesia Later

I’ve always been a great Amnesia fan and my expectations for Amnesia Later were very high: I was excited to find out what happened after all the events of the first game, and I wanted to see how much the characters matured and changed in the meanwhile!

I also wished I could enjoy more the routes, without crazy girls and cages.

“New World” is a story which happens in another alternative world, and I liked this atmosphere a lot, because the heroine acted more confident and she finally looked more relaxed; she deserved some happiness, poor girl!

“After story” is basically a sequel, which starts after the main game’s ending.

I’ve played Toma first, because his route was the craziest and also the more interesting to me, so I was really curious to see how much he changed. Would he still be a yandere, without a real danger around her?

Well…. he was kind of creepy again, in my opinion.

He apologized so many times, and I could see he was honestly sorry about drugging and locking her in that cage; but in the end, I couldn’t really trust him when he swore he was doing that just to save her from those crazy girls.

I keep thinking he also acted like that because he wanted to have the heroine all for himself, without sharing her with anyone else. Also, why did he keep the cage in the veranda? I think he was secretly hoping to use it again in the future, or at least he was fantasizing about it!

Let’s say I forgive him (and it took me a lot of time and effort), but I still can’t trust him completely.

Kent’s route was very good, it showed a huge improvement from the first game!

He started from being like a robot without feelings, who didn’t even console the heroine when her dog died (how could he be so insensitive back then?! That scene, still makes me angry), but I could really see he changed, in Amnesia Later.

He still had problems in understanding her needs, but it was obvious that at least he was trying his best to make her happy.

I only have a complain: this route felt too short!

I honestly wanted to see more of their cute moments, and more beautiful London scenes.

Shin was…. the usual Shin, I guess.

It’s not a secret, I don’t like him: I swear I tried, but in my eyes he’s not even a tsundere… he’s just rude. I’m sorry, I don’t find him cute when he calls her “baka” and he treats her like a stupid, every single time.

Unfortunately, I didn’t see any change in his attitude, from the first game: he was still too aggressive, he looked like a typical teenager who can’t control his hormones and forces his girlfriend to do stuff she isn’t ready for.

I usually dislike too innocent heroines, but this time I honestly sympathized with her: I admit she was always too naive and pure, but that’s not a reason to be so disrespectful.

For the whole time, I kept thinking: if you’re so different, just broke up! you can’t be together like this, it’s obvious!

They know each other from childhood days, I think they should easily understand how they are not compatible. She’s looking for a boyfriend who wants to hold hands with her and take a walk in a park, while he just wants to be alone with her………… they will just keep arguing forever.

Ikki’s route was AMAZING.

I can’t describe how much I loved every single moment, I can safely say this was one of the best route I’ve ever played in my life!

I’ve always liked him, but everything was perfect this time.

He was caring, loving, patient, sexy, romantic… he’s all a girl could wish for! (at least, for me, I couldn’t ask for more!).

Every moment was precious, from the good morning kiss to the sexy times at night.

I should quote too many lines to make you understand my feelings, and I obviously can’t, so I just stop here and leave this discovery to you.

Enjoy happiness!

I’ve played Ukyo last, as always.

I had the greatest expectations, because I was really curious to know how he really is…. but I was disappointed. There weren’t memorable scenes, it was boring most of the time!

I just wished to share happy moments with him, instead of talking about sad stuff like “I died so many times for you, I wanted to see you happy”.

I know it’s supposed to be romantic, but…let’s forget about it and move on please, show me who you are! Let’s enjoy ourselves, suffering is over now!

In the end, I still couldn’t understand if I like him or not.

Would I recommend this?

Obviously! It’s a must play for everyone who loved the first Amnesia, it allows you to go deeper into the characters and understand them more.

I could forgive Toma, love Ikki, appreciate a nice Kent, meet again the crazy side of Ukyo… Shin was there too, nevermind. (I’m sorry to his fans, but I really can’t)

It’s a must play!

Snow bound land

278303_front

It took me months to complete this game, it was my personal (worst) record probably!

But this doesn’t mean the game itself is bad, it’s just quite long; at least, the first route takes forever, because of the never ending common route.

In this game, you must travel to different words: starting from the village, you reach the Red World, the Yellow, the Green and finally the White, where the final battle starts.

There are many sub characters, with different attitudes: some are willing to help, others will be dangerous; but you need to obtain the “key” from them, or you won’t be able to face the Snow Queen and try to defeat her, to remove the curse.

All the CGs in this game look so good, I stared at them amazed every time! I really wished this game was ported to vita, it deserves a better graphic resolution.

I’ve played Kai first, the blond haired childhood friend: he was so nice and sweet, I immediately fell in love! He’s ready to sacrifice everything for Gerda and he’s loyal to his friends too.

The curse can change his personality, making him suddenly cold and quite rude; but I really appreciated this side too, because somehow the heroine won over it and obtained his help, to gain back the real Kai and defeat the Snow Queen.

Orva was a yandere, and you could easily tell just by talking to him a bit in the common route; since he had a weak and fragile body due to a sickness, he couldn’t get up from bed and spent all day in his bedroom, envying others basically.

I wasn’t expecting him to bee that creepy tho… I mean, usually yandere act like that to protect the heroine or just because they’re possessive towards her, not just to protect themselves!

There was a moment when I was really scared, he lost completely my trust and he couldn’t gain it back; I’m sorry, I’d rather being alone instead.

I understand his suffering, but he was still too selfish, since all his friends got cursed because they were trying to help him.

Obviously he changed his mind in the end, but it was too late for me to fully appreciate this character.

Aje’s route was really the best, his curse made every situation funny and awkward!

I really loved his tsundere personality, and also his route had the most emotions.

He had some amazing CGs, I wish I could share them here or on twitter, but……….. this route is too spoilerish, I can’t.

Anyway, he’s really worth the game itself, he should probably be the main character!

I didn’t dislike Kai, but Aje was really better than anyone else, he owned the game for me.

Craes was more interesting than I expected, his route was actually nice to play.

There were funny moments, cute moments, but also shocking secrets revealed, and I would have never predicted that! Honestly, while I was playing other routes, I’ve realized that something was weird with him… his curse could actually become a gift, but somehow he couldn’t take advantage of it, and that was suspicious enough.

So, when the demon told me that Craes was hiding something, I had no doubts.

I just wish his past was explained better, but in the end, as usual, the writer seemed to give up and decided to end the route in the fastest way possible.

The final dialogue with the Queen was like “aren’t you lonely here? Let’s be friend! Come to our village!” and I was facepalming the whole time.

Really, Otomate? Is this a game for elementary schooler? Are you going to solve everything with the power of friendship?

I don’t know if I’m too old and cynical for this, or it’s bad as it seems to me.

Probably both.

Also, that’s one thing that bothered me a lot: why everyone trusted the heroine so easily? The key for the White world should be a very precious item for every world, you shouldn’t just give it away to a stranger! But Gerda just promised to return it to the owner after the mission, and everyone believed her. Come on, writers… this is so stupid that makes me angry, I swear.

I had great expectations for Ivan’s route, but… it was actually normal?

I mean, his CGs were wonderful, I liked him as a character and it was nice to hear Ishida Akira again; but I was expecting something more!

The Snow Queen basically gave up on him for no reason: after she obtained Gerda’s fragment back, she decided to set him free for the magical power of love.

But why??

Honestly, all those “you must be so lonely” scenes we got in every route were childish and annoying.

She basically forced Ivan to go with her in the freezing White world, when he was a little boy, taking him away from his family and making him her servant; why did she randomly become nice, in the end? Because Gerda understood her loneliness? This just looks like lazy writing to me.

An epic battle would have been way more interesting!

Do I recommend this game?

It depends on your priorities: if you value more beautiful CGs than a deep plot, you will absolutely love it, because the art is amazing; but you must be very patient on the first run, the common route is really long.

If you’re looking for something more serious and you can’t stand when the power of love and friendship solves every problem, then you’d better skip this.

Shinobi koi utsutsu

544729_front

I’m usually not interested in historical games (or ninja/shinobi settings), but this looked so colorful and funny, that I decided to give it a try.

The plot is very simple, even too much: the heroine attends a ninja school, and she has the power to make the boys around her fall in love, when she gets nervous or excited.

Obviously, this creates a lot of awkward moments, because the boys can’t control their hormones anymore and end up saying a lot of embarrassing stuff they will regret later.

Most of the characters are tsundere, probably because this trope is the funniest in these kind of situations… and it actually worked!

I’ve played Yuri first, and it was a good choice.

He’s usually a serious tsundere, but when he’s under the jutsu’s effect he becomes an ore sama; when he goes back to his normal self, he remembers everything he said and his face becomes so RED, I was dying of laughter!

I also enjoyed the overall plot, because it was my first play, but everything became really boring and predictable once I knew the truth.

This game has a huge problem: some scenes are the same in every route.

I could resume every route like this:

  • The heroine attends school

  • She chooses a partner for the training

  • She gets bullied by classmates

  • She discovers her blood is immune

  • They defeat the enemies

The last fight was too long, I got bored after a couple routes.

I also disliked the heroine: I hoped she would be strong, since she was there to fight, but she couldn’t even stand for herself against the bullies; she even thought she deserved it, and it made me so angry! She just kept saying: “I know I’m not good, I’m just a nuisance for everyone!”.

Girl, stop. Show some pride!

It was so irritating… I can’t stand weak people, I’m sorry.

Kurodo’s route was nice: I didn’t get bored, but there weren’t many memorable scenes.

Unfortunately, he was just a quiet tsundere, so the funny moments were just a few.

Sasuke was better, his route was interesting and I think he also got the best CGs; he was so cute, when he was stuttering like crazy out of embarrassment!

Daisuke was the only onnatarashi type, that’s why I was curious to see how the jutsu could work on him: and it made him very romantic and nice!

He hated to show his gentle side, but I actually loved it.

I also appreciated how he treated all those bitches who bullied the heroine, she finally had some revenge; she was also stronger in this route, she could even protect him instead of just failing at exams and complaining about her weakness.

I think everything could have been a lot better for me, if I played him first or second: I liked him, but at that point I started to get sick of the copypasta of the plot, so I couldn’t fully appreciate the route as it deserved.

Garaya’s route was the most shocking and interesting: usually, he was just an hikikomori who lived in his own world; he used a lot of strange words nobody else could understand, and he didn’t have any friends.

The jutsu’s effect made him a yandere, and I was obviously interested in him!

You can tell Otomate put more attention on this route, because he actually had an interesting plot and also different backgrounds who looked amazing: the library and his room were really wonderful.

The way he talked was a bit too much for me, tho: I really couldn’t understand anything! at first, I thought it was just my fault… but it’s actually normal, because even the heroine kept saying “I really don’t understand”! He was too weird even for me….

Anyway, I really loved his ending: when he showed his true appearance he became very cool and his confession was perfect!

The last route was the most boring: I wasn’t interested in Sanada sensei, honestly.

The true revelation about the heroine’s past was actually obvious from the start, so I wasn’t shocked at all; he even tried to avoid the jutsu, because “you’re my student, I can’t” and this made everything just plain and boring.

Do I recommend this game?

Yes, for the fanservice and funny/awkward moments!

Don’t expect too much from the plot, because it’s mostly copypasta, and focus on the characters and the jutsu’s effect.

The CGs are very nice and colorful too.

If you’re not looking for something “deep”, I’m sure you’re going to enjoy it!

Period Cube

period-cube-full-1945858

I wasn’t very interested in Period cube when it was released, that’s why I haven’t bought it immediately. But I found a cheap copy in Japan (tbh it was cheap in almost every store, none sold it at full price), so I decided to give it a try anyway.

The first thing I noticed, it’s the shortness: it took me so little time to complete my first route, I think a fast player could easily complete the whole game in a week.

I usually appreciate when a game it’s not too long, but this was too much for me!

Hiroya’s route was nice, but I think I liked it mostly because he was the first character I’ve played: thinking about it now that I’m done with everything, I don’t actually remember that much, because nothing interesting really happened.

Some scenes were cute, childhood friends are usually fun to play, but that’s it.

Zain’s route was weird, and not in a good way.

The fast pacing made everything awkward from the beginning, and it got weirder as the route progressed; at least, some yandere scenes were memorable.

I think he had potential as a character, he could have been interesting, but everything was wasted by a bad writing which made everything happen too fast.

Radius’ route was way better: I finally hadn’t problems with the pacing, nothing happened too fast and his behavior actually made sense.

There’s only one thing that bothered me a bit: why is he an idol? I know idols are popular in Japan and they help to sell more games, but that’s totally useless here!

Anyway, the plot was good and I loved him, he was such a tsundere… he got amazing CGs too!

I’m not a Maeno fan usually, but he did a good job.

Libera didn’t interest me at first, I saw it as a “friend route” and I couldn’t see him as a true love interest even in the end.

His route had a shocking revelation tho, I wasn’t expecting it at all… it made me really sad.

Anyway, even if some parts were interesting and made me emotional, it felt way too long; probably because the last fight scene was longer than usual, or maybe just because I was a bit tired of seeing similar scenes in every route.

What I appreciated the most, is the ending: he grew up, and they became a wonderful couple!

That was a nice scene and CG, it was a good choice to make him look finally like a man.

Astrum was so good, really!

His route is worth the whole game for me, I fell in love immediately with his reliable and caring personality; it was very prince-like, I felt protected and loved.

He was really into his role in the Arcadia world, you could tell by the way he talked; I loved his interactions with Hiroya, who was jealous all the time, and tried to keep him distant from the heroine.

His attitude in the real world was so different tho, I was surprised because he looked like a completely different person… it’s obvious why he’s so strong in Arcadia, he probably prefers playing instead of living real life, where the other students just make fun of him.

I think he also got the best CGs, I liked them all!

Demento’s route was……. weird and short.

It could have been interesting, because he’s obviously a psycho who loves to kill people just to feel some excitement; in this situation, I could understand if the heroine would develop some kind of Stockholm syndrome, after being kidnapped.

Unfortunately, this route was too short and I couldn’t see any kind of development: simply, the heroine was too nice with him since the beginning and she forgave everything.

“Who cares if you killed so many people? You are actually a nice guy, I know. Save him, niisan!”

ok, it wasn’t exactly like this, but the meaning was the same.

Such a waste of character, there was a true potential in him!

My last route was obviously Poyopoyo!

Let’s call him niisan, his true identity was so obvious from the start that I don’t even think it’s a spoiler.

All my friends (and people who read my reviews) already know about my undying love towards yandere and brothers, I was looking forward to this route the most!

He’s also voiced by Toriumi and that’s a huge plus for me, since he’s one of my favorite seiyuu.

Some scenes were quite creepy, and I absolutely loved them!

His confession was the best, and the ending shocked me: the final revelation was completely unexpected; many players will probably dislike this choice, but I really appreciated it.

I won’t forget this route easily, it was really a plot twist!

Do I recommend this game?

Since it’s going to be localized soon, I want to be completely honest: they could have chosen something better.

It’s not a bad game, I actually enjoyed most of it, but there are so many better otoge which deserve to be translated for those who can’t play the japanese version!

Probably, this theme is considered interesting for a western audience, since it reminds of Sword Art Online, that’s why they invested in it.

But unfortunately, it’s not perfect at all: the gap between the main characters (Radius, Astrum and Shiki) ad the others was really huge, all the other routes feel incomplete, lazy or just plain boring.

Anyway, it’s obvious that all the writer’s effort was put to the leaders of the parties, and I really loved them.

My favorite boy is Astrum, but niisan is really close; these routes are worth the whole game.

If you can’t play japanese games, I think you should give a chance to the localization, you shouldn’t be disappointed.

If you’ve already played too many games, like me, there’s no need to buy this at full price: just wait when you find a good price!

Brothers Conflict Brilliant Blue

brocon_blue

I loved Brothers conflict Passion Pink, even if the gameplay was really annoying, that’s why I’ve obviously played Brilliant Blue too!

As usual, I experienced the panic of “this event doesn’t unlock and I don’t know what I did wrong!”, but it was worth it, because I enjoyed these characters too, even if my favorite were all in the previous game.

The atmosphere here is darker, I got to experience more angst and sad situations; also, their past was sometimes hard to overcome.

I’ve played Ukyo first, because he looked very serious, and I imagined his route would be a bit boring; but it wasn’t, I appreciated all the cute and funny moments! It was a nice surprise, almost like Masaomi in Passion Pink.

The elder boys in Brocon have been overshadowed by the younger ones in the anime, but they totally deserve more love.

Entering Iori’s route was not easy, since I had to raise also Kaname’s affection… but not too much, or he could just become a yandere and kill us all.

I was expecting something creepy, but this exceeded my imagination!

I can understand him, he was shocked by his girlfriend’s death, but that doesn’t justify his crazy reactions and all the blame he put on the poor Kaname.

I think he has a serious mental issue, but nobody seems to care or to fully understand how deep and scary it is; just taking care of him is not enough, this boy really needs a psychiatrist to overcome his trauma, or he will just keep being obsessed forever.

I’ve played Azusa later and it was a quiet, nice route as I expected.

He had an inferiority complex towards Tsubaki, it was predictable just by watching the anime; all I needed to do, was to make him understand how much he’s worthy as a person and a seiyuu.

I love Tsubaki, but Azusa can totally stand on his own!

But honestly, it was a nice route anyway: I thought it could be worse, but he wasn’t just talking about his twin all the time.

Unfortunately, Louis was quite boring to play; or maybe the right word for his route is useless?

I don’t dislike him, but his events were not interesting at all! It also felt shorter than the others, as if the writers themselves had no ideas.

The ending was so predictable… the only CG that stuck in my mind, was the bathroom scene. I admit it, that was hot!

I’ve played Natsume last, because he was the one who interested me the most.

Playing Azusa before him was a huge mistake, because I spoiled myself most of Natsume’s dates; his CGs were nice anyway, and his events too.

I also appreciated how the writers actually put some efforts in the plot, because they came up with believable reasons to justify why Ema was going to his house so often.

I just wished there was some kind of shocking revelation, to explain why he gave up on running.

Honestly, I think the brothers in Brilliant Blue are not interesting and well developed as the ones in Passion Pink; maybe it’s just me, because all my favorites are in the other game, but overall this wasn’t as good.

Iori is the only one with a great route, even if it’s a bit disturbing; the others had no shocking moments, everything was quite predictable from the start.

Obviously, this kind of game doesn’t rely on heavy plot or action, but at least the writers should work a bit on the characters interactions, to make it original and interesting to play.

Do I recommend it?

If you played Passion Pink, or watched the anime, this is absolutely a must play: at least, you get to know more about every character and also understand more some anime scenes.

It also may be a nice change, if you usually play games with an heavy plot that need you to be always focused.

But if you’re not interested in slice of life games, or haven’t watched the anime at all, this will probably seem just a waste of time.

I don’t regret playing both games, because almost all the characters managed to reach my heart somehow: Tsubaki and Fuuto will always be in my personal top10, I really love them.

But they were the ones who showed me the otoge world, so I’m probably just biased.

Storm Lover

storm-lover-case-pic

Storm Lover is my favorite school themed otoge, and one of the first games I played, back in the time when I still couldn’t read japanese.

The plot is actually quite basic, but what made it really good to me were the characters: I loved them and their interactions, that’s why I didn’t even use the cheat option.

Many people complained about the stat raising system, but it wasn’t annoying to me; at least, not as other games (wof still haunts my dreams).

I’ve played Mio first, because his weirdness attracted me the most; and I wasn’t disappointed at all!

I fell in love immediately, and I had so much fun when I was dating him!

Sometimes he was difficult to understand, but at least he was an original and interesting character; his talents for drawing and taking pictures was charming too, I guess he just had an artistic personality that justified his “wft is he saying?” moments.

Yuto was… too perfect? I don’t know how else to describe him.

He’s some kind of prince-like type: he’s rich, good looking, smart and reliable.

I won’t lie, his perfection was almost irritating, he made me feel useless most of the time!

Stop being so flawless please, I’m feeling bad for the heroine who tries desperately to keep up with you! He was nice, but I didn’t like him, sorry.

Rikka was the complete opposite: he was the typical childish shota who liked to make pranks and be loud; but he acually hid a huge secret, that made his route very serious and tragic.

Well, that was unexpected in this kind of happy game.

Kyousuke was amazing, I loved every moment of his route!

I really liked his sister too, when she was making fun of him for blushing and acting all tsundere, I was laughing like crazy at his reactions.

It’s unusual for me to appreciate so much this type of character, but he was really perfect to me; I just wished for a different ending, somehow it ruined the mood… anyway, it was pure gold.

He will always be my king of tsundere!

I also liked Souya’s route.

He’s the member of a band, so I was ready to see him always flirting with girls, but he was actually very mature; I also appreciated how he had no fear to confess his feelings for the heroine to the fans, he was really straightforward.

Just get rid of that terrible goatee please!

Takumi, unfortunately, was a great disappointment.

I usually like playboys, but the way he talked was really too annoying to me… I swear, I couldn’t stand him anymore! I’m sure I would have liked him more, if he just talked like a normal person… but he didn’t, so I just played his route without paying too much attention.

I’ve played Tsukasa sensei last.

When it comes to teachers, there are two options for me: it can be very interesting, or just terribly boring.

Unfortunately, Tsukasa used immediately the “I can’t do nothing since you’re my student”card, and their interactions became really awkward and annoying.

Honestly, I don’t know why the heroine was interested in him: he’s good looking and mature, but also really boring… like, really old fashioned for everything.

If you have such interesting classmates, why going for the most plain person you have around? Unless you have a teacher/older person fetish, then I understand.

Would I recommend this game?

Yes! It’s just a school themed game, nothing more, but overall I enjoyed it a lot.

I’ll be honest, to me it was way better than Starry Sky, it felt more real and funny!

If you’re a japanese language beginner, I highly recommend to try this game, because the language is very easy and you’ll probably have no problem in understanding and also reading kanji.

Don’t be scared by the raising system, reaching every ending is very easy.

I’m sure you will fall in love with these characters!

Otoko Yuukaku

otoko-yuukaku-2015-02-17

Otoko Yuukaku is basically a fanservice game, with almost no plot at all; what else can you expect from a brothel as a setting? But it can be enjoyable, anyway!

My first route, and also the best, was Takao: he’s the most requested manwhore, and it’s easy to understand why… I’d request him too, if I was a customer!

He really knows how to make a woman feel special, even if he’s obviously doing it for money.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t understand at all why and when he fell in love with the heroine.

Maybe because she paid enough to be his only customer? Or because she offered to make him free? But it’s all about money, how romantic!

I guess all the other customers didn’t care enough and just got tired of him after a while.

For the next routes, I stopped over analyzing everything, because it was too obvious that this game was not made with a deep logic, so I just focused on the sexy scenes.

Kagerou’s route was completely different.

He refused his sister’s help, because he wanted to gain freedom on his own; how stupid can be, throwing away your dignity, just to protect your little pride?

Anyway, I liked this route because it was unexpected, a tsundere obviously doesn’t fit in a brothel! His innocence was a nice change.

I wasn’t interested in Iroha at first, but I changed my mind later.

He’s like some kind of boss, because he already payed his debt, but he decided to keep living there anyway; he’s not a manwhore anymore, so at least I didn’t have to worry about other customers or money.

But………. why is he an oni? I mean… it’s completely random!

Wait, I just wrote how trying to find a logic in this game is useless, so let’s just pretend it never happened; it’s all normal.

Tokiwa was a nice surprise: I wasn’t expecting much from him, he looked very superficial and empty; but his route actually had some kind of plot, at least something happened outside of the brothel too! He also had a really bad ending.

I have to admit that this game surprised me a bit: at least the characters were quite different, they had a different approach towards their job and the heroine too; it’s not always predictable as it may seem.

Unfortunately, Kagura’s route was quite boring: dealing with a kuudere in a brothel feels strange from the beginning, seeing him training with his sword was not very interesting and talking about medicine books was just boring.

At that point, I just wanted to complete it faster to unlock the final route: Keiji.

Finally, we got some kind of real plot: the origin of the curse was explained, but it was such an absurd story that I really couldn’t take it seriously. Well, at least they tried, I guess!

I don’t even know why I was expecting some great and interesting revelation, it was my fault.

Do I recommend this game?

I don’t think so.

The only good routes (talking about fanservice, obviously) were Takao and Tokiwa; Kagerou was nice too. Iroha was a bit boring after a while, Kagura and Keiji made me fall asleep most of the time.

I don’t think it’s worth the full price, but maybe you can consider buying it if it’s sold at a very low price. I’ve read a few reviews before playing, I knew it wasn’t going to be great… but still, I’m a bit disappointed.

Even if some characters were nice, it’s just plain fanservice; at this point, it’s better if you just listen to the Drama CD.

Also, the heroine was terrible…… she arrived at the brothel without even knowing which kind of place it was, but it took her so little time to spend a lot of money!

I’d prefer an heroine who goes there knowing exactly where she is and what she wants, I’m too tired of the innocent ones who change their minds so carelessly.

Am I the only one?! Probably, considering the general lack of badass heroines.

Kamigami no asobi

Before I started playing Kamiaso, I was very hyped: I’ve watched the anime first, so I had a lot of expectations… but I wasn’t completely satisfied.

The plot and the characters seemed all interesting to me, and I’m also glad that Broccoli decided to add gods from different countries.

I’ve played Loki first, because he was the one who worried me the most: the anime made his relationship with Balder look like some kind of BL stuff, so I wanted to get him done immediately.

I won’t lie, in the beginning some scenes were like that, but it slowly went better and it was overall better than I imagined; after he confessed, I really enjoyed his route.

The love ending were the best, because the destinies felt too tragic and involved the poor Balder (who basically kept dying about 4 times in this game).

Apollo’s route was very different from my expectations.

His personality seems bright and cheerful, but he actually hides his true feelings: in the ending, it was quite sad to understand that most of his kindness towards the heroine was because she reminded him of Cassandra.

The plot became quite dark and depressing, I really felt sad for him.

I’ve played Takeru without great excitement, I’m not that interested in tsundere usually.

Surprisingly, I liked him a lot!

At first he was just randomly insulting the poor heroine, but then he opened up about his past and I really felt sorry for him; his confession scene was good, I hoped also for a romantic ending… but I guess I can’t ask too much.

That 8 headed dragon was random honestly, but the destiny ending when Tsukito died made me cry a river, the writing was awesome!

Ade’s route reminded me of Starry sky sometimes, when he was talking about the stars for so long… I admit I got bored.

His endings were very sad, but I appreciated them all, even the bad ones; we can even say that a true “happy ending” doesn’t exist, because he couldn’t successfully get rid of the curse.

When he decided to go back to the underworld all alone to save everyone, sacrificing himself, I swear I got very emotional. Poor boy, his fate is so cruel… I really wished to see him happy.

Tsukito is a typical kuudere, and it was hard for me to play his route without falling asleep: he basically doesn’t talk, has no emotions, and making him smile was really hard.

Broccoli decided to fill his route by adding Amaterasu, who looked way more interesting tbh.

I’ve left Balder for last, because I knew he was a yandere and I’m always interested in those kind of twisted personalities. Also, I felt like his CGs were the best in the whole game!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t satisfied with the endings, because they reminded me too much of Loki’s destinies ones. There was a great potential for this route, but Broccoli decided to ruin everything with a useless copypasta.

In the anime, Loki/Balder relationship was ruined adding some sort of BL stuff, while in the game it suffered the lack of originality.

After the main routes, I still had the short ones left: the Egyptian gods.

I don’t even know how to describe Anubi’s route………. terrible may be the right word.

He’s basically a little child acting like a dog, how could someone fall in love with him? He may be cute, but… not as a love interest.

I know many girls like shotas, but this is too much, come on!

It felt like a useless waste of time, but I had to clear it anyway to unlock Thoth.

I liked Thoth in the anime, and his route was as I expected it.

I’ve seen many people hating on him, but I don’t get why; ok, sometimes he may act creepy or rude, but it didn’t bother me that much. At least, it wasn’t boring!

I only have one complain: his love ending.

It should probably be the “real ending” of the game, because he’s the last character to unlock, but…. it’s not fair! I mean, it’s absurd to me!

I just wished to see his human form, but I guess the writers chose something more original, at least for the very end.

Do I recommend this game?

Well… I guess so? The pros are more than the cons, at least for my personal experience.

The art is amazing, there’s not even need to talk about it; the characters are interesting, and the setting too; the plot, overall, is well written; there are funny moments but also sad ones, so this game has an equal balance of emotions.

But I can’t deny that many endings are too similar, they didn’t even try to think about something different; also, seeing the young version of Zeus was awkward. I know, it’s stupid to say, but… WHY?!

Anyway, I decided to play the sequel too…. and it wasn’t a good experience.
