I’ve removed years of dust from my old games, and finally decided it was time for me to give a try to Re:Viced, one of the first PsVita otome games.

I’ve always read good reviews about it, so I expected it to be a fairly good title.

Honestly, if my first impression wasn’t that great, I admit it eventually got better while playing and I ended up enjoying it!

When I read the basic plot, I imagined it to be some kind of serious and maybe dark game, with demons and wars; I was really wrong, since it mostly turned out to be a comedy and fun experience. I admit I was disappointed at first, since it was completely different from my expectations, but it was enjoyable to kill some time while I was also playing bloody stuff like Steam Prison.

Yukine attracted my attention first, for his carefree attitude that made me always wonder what he was thinking, and if he was hiding something behind his cute smile.

His happy ending was kinda sad and even confusing, but I guess there was nothing better to do since he’s “special” for various reasons: don’t make my same mistake, I’d recommend to play him last. Still, he’s a good boy and I loved dating him, he’s great boyfriend material.

Then I’ve played Ryouga with high expectations, since his whole existence, attitude and job felt like some kind of joke and I wanted to make fun of him.

The truth was very different (or so it seemed, for a while) and at some point it shocked me, but I still enjoyed every single moment; his change of personality was cool, not that scary.

I’d appreciate him even if he decided to keep that facade. He would be an hot, cruel King.

Iroha was annoying at first, his personality was terrible……….. at least, until he started showing his tsundere side. And that was really cute! I’m weak to blushing tsundere.

This route felt longer to me, since there was a deeper plot and the best ending can be considered some kind of “true ending” of the whole game. I suggest you to play him first, if you prefer going for the main guy immediately; just be aware this route is the most important.

I admit I was hoping for something better, I even got bored at some point and I realized how I appreciated Re:Viced only for the funniest parts, it fails to become interesting when it tries to be serious. At least, for my personal taste.

I left Hinatsu last, cause the weird hikikomori has some special charm and I was sure he had a great potential. Some scenes were funny at first, as I expected, but then the plot became very sad and I thought any kind of happy ending was impossible in his situation.

This route was unusual, even some scenes seemed almost forced, just to make him happy somehow; but I loved him, he’s sweet and pure, so let’s pretend it all makes sense.

There’s one last (secret?) route, which is predictable but also spoilerish, so I won’t talk about it; but it was a great ending for the game.

Do I recommend Re:Viced?

I’ll be honest, it’s not memorable: there are many funny scenes, the characters are weird but charming and the heroine is cool, so it’s entertaining; but the writing is absurd sometimes (like, at first, when they all met and started acting like best friends even if they knew each other for a few seconds. It seemed like there were some bad cuts at the scenes, like I was missing something in between) and the overall plot is very basic.

If you find it on sale, and it’s not difficult at all, maybe it’s still worth some money; but don’t pay too much, you aren’t missing something great.
