Since I love to show you how terrible my taste in men is, after my Top10 Husbando, I’m here presenting you my TOP10 Tropes, aka the type of characters I usually enjoy the most in otome games. I’ll start from the ones I don’t find interesting or sexy, up to the trope which usually catch my heart. Feel free to judge me really hard!

10- Shota

No matter how hard I try, I can’t enjoy shota routes: I don’t feel slightly attracted to them, they look more like little brothers than husbando material. I don’t enjoy dealing with children, so I don’t want one as a boyfriend. If the route is good, the best I can say about them is “cute”.

9- Kuudere

I need to put this kind of character in the bottom of my list, since it’s always a mystery to me: no matter how hard I try, I can’t understand them and I can’t feel attracted to someone who barely shows human feelings.

I kinda admire them for being so stoic tho, so I can’t say I completely dislike this trope… I simply don’t want a kuudere as a boyfriend.

8- Megane

I guess people are attracted to this kind of characters since they look smarter and sexier with their glasses on? It doesn’t really work on me, but I can understand why they are appealing.

7- Genki

You know, those boys who are always smiling, happy and positive, no matter what happens?

For me, they are perfect friends. I love how they can make the heroine smile, when she feels sad or worried. But I see them more as friends than romantic interests.

6- Sensei

Maybe it’s not a type of character, but it’s definitely a trope in every school game: the young, good looking teacher. Usually in his late 20’s, he approaches the heroine with his cool adult charm.

5- Childhood friends

This kind of route may turn out different from your expectations: he could end up being a sweet tsundere, confessing his love for you while stuttering and blushing, or a creepy yandere ready to put you in a cage. There’s no in between.

4-Tsundere

I bet no one can resist a cute boy blushing and blabbering nonsense, when he’s too shy to express his feelings. I guess this is the most popular type! Well, it works pretty well on me too.

3-Onii chan

I know, this trope can be disturbing, it’s a sensitive topic.

Maybe it’s because I’m an only child, I’d probably be disgusted if I had an older brother.

But I don’t, so I kinda enjoy the idea of an older brother who is secretly in love with me since childhood.

2- Onnatarashii/Playboy

This is the kind of man I’d definitely hate and avoid in real life, because they aren’t trustworthy at all. But in otome games, when they fall in love with the heroine, they magically became very devoted and from that moment they completely stop playing around with other girls.

Their confident attitude makes them really attractive to me, they are honest and have no fear to show their feelings.

1- Yandere

Ok, judge me as you want. I know many people hate this trope and I can’t deny it may be disturbing sometimes. But this is fiction, not real life. In games, I look for interesting characters, who are unpredictable and make me want to see how far they can get. Yandere rarely let me down, their route is a wild ride that catches my attention til the end!

What’s your favorite trope? Or maybe do you prefer ore sama, koakuma or even ossans? Let me know!
