After Debut, which was the perfect definition of kusoge, I was almost afraid to play another Utapri game; but they have been sitting in my backlog for years, so I finally gave them a last chance, encouraged by friends who told me that All star is the best of the series.

I admit it, it’s a great improvement, but….. not enough to make me interested til the end.

I’ve played Quartet Night’s members first, since they are the new characters and this game mostly focuses on them: they were firstly introduced in Debut, but in a terrible way, so I was worried to hate them all again.

I’ve started with Reiji, because he looked like the nicest and the easiest to handle: it was a good choice, since he was exactly as I expected.

His best ending was also really randy, I was surprised to see this kind of scenes instead of a BL fest! And I even spent all the route with him, dealing with his past and insecurities! (as expected from an otome game… it may seem ridiculous I need to write this, but everyone who played Debut understands my relief, I’m sure.)

After this great start, I had an hard time dealing with Camus.

I knew he was cold and difficult to approach, but he was really intimidating! I admit it, at first I was about to thrown my PSP away…. let’s say it frankly, he was a douche.

After a couple chapters, he finally started open up a bit and acted like a decent human being, so I actually enjoyed a few moments with him.

Since it’s Utapri, not just a normal game, we obviously need some random supernatural scene with weird powers! And Cecil is involved too!

I admit I loved Camus’ last chapter and endings, he grew on me while playing and I really felt attached to him…. I’d never imagined it could happen!

Never judge someone from the first impression, he may look like a douche but hide a nice personality; or maybe this happens only in otoge after a few chapters.

Cecil insulting him and them cursing each other in their own native language made ma laugh really hard, it will stay in my memory for a while! (As well as the dog magically transforming in a white horse for no apparent reason… didn’t he have a normal horse?!)

Ai was the character who interested me the most, since he’s always been greatly popular; I wondered why everyone loved him so much, and I think I get it now.

His route was the most interesting, full on mystery and emotions, it really impressed me!

I liked him as person and also his back story, even if it was really weird… but hey, it’s utapri, what did I expect? It was nice to play a well written route: I’m sorry to say this again, but after that nonsense which was Debut, my hopes to be really invested in a Utapri’s route again were really low.

Ranmaru’s route was a huge surprise: I was ready to be insulted and yelled at, just because I’m a useless women, but it was basically a big tsundere fest! I even laughed at his fights with Camus, they were really funny!

Quartet night are a weird group, they have no regular friendship or cute moments like Starish, but you can tell they are somehow close by the way they make fun of each other.

It’s been a while since I laughed this much while playing!

Ranmaru being rude, Camus acting “too good for these peasants”, Ai’s witty remarks and Reiji’s childish attitude make them an absurd group of involuntary comedians.

After the senpai, I had to play the teachers.

I’ll be honest, I couldn’t care less about both, that’s why I ignored their routes in Sweet Serenade; but I had to complete them to unlock Starish routes, so I tried really hard to give them a chance.

I can’t even consider Ringo a man, I’m too used to his girlish appearance…. so after a few minutes forcing myself to be interested, I’ve decided to play without caring too much and just skip from time to time. It turns out I’ve made a wise choice, because I’ve seen that blond bitch who also appeared in Ren’s Debut route, and I didn’t want to deal with her anymore.

I think he could have been interesting if he hid a secret naughty shota personality or something spicy I wouldn’t expect from a pink-haired guy who wears girl’s clothes all day… sadly, he acted feminine and weak all the time, being insecure about himself, which made drop any kind of interest I could have. I’ve tried to pay attention to his endings, but only the Love was vaguely interesting.

Hyuuga sensei’s route was better, but still… awkward, I’d say. I don’t know, Haruka is too innocent, I can’t imagine her being in a secret relationship with an older teacher.

At least, despite the whole situation being unbelievable, I could play all the route without force skipping! It’s a progress!

Starish were all wrapped up in a Rainbow Route, which was so bad I was falling asleep and raging at the same time.

That’s when I’ve realized I had suffered enough and dropped the game.

Sorry if this review is incomplete, but I couldn’t take it anymore!

I have amazing games sitting in my backlog, I was tired of wasting my time playing something so boring… sorry to the Starish fans, I don’t dislike the boys, but it’s obvious that Broccoli doesn’t know how to handle them anymore.

I’ll just tell you that Haruka turns into a cat and helps them writing a song like that, without even talking… don’t ask me why and how, I don’t know and I don’t want to bother honestly.

In the end, I’d recommend this game only to Quartet Night’s fans: those routes were really good, so if you want to know more about them, this game will make you laugh and cry.

It’s obvious that all the effort went to their routes, while the others were short and boring, without a decent plot… so unless you’re a great fan of this series, just don’t bother or you’ll end up suffering like me.
