My life, my hobbies, my real self

Shiro to kuro no Alice

I’ve been waiting for Shiro to Kuro no Alice enthusiastically, since the first time it was announced: I admit it, the Alice time is really overused, but the two different worlds and heroines made me very curious; that’s why I ignored my neverending backlog and started playing it very soon after I received my copy!

I’ve decided to start with the White world, and I think it’s the better choice.

I’ve been told Minette was a nice start and I listened to my friend’s advice; in fact, his route did not reveal that much about the overall plot, it was more focused on the main characters relationship.

I enjoyed it, even if sometimes Kimura’s voice reminded me too much of Diabolik Lovers’ Kou, since the character’s personality are somehow similar and there are also blood sucking scenes.

I don’t dislike Airi as heroine, but she’s a bit too passive and forgiving: this route had a lot of terrible moments she overcame (proving she’s also strong) but she forgave too easily, in my opinion.

Rain’s route was a disappointment for the most part.

At first, even if I liked his cool attitude, I was bored: Alice just kept complaining about everything and nothing interesting really happened for about 4 chapters; then, finally the plot became interesting and the romance didn’t even feel too forced.

Rain’s confession was also cute, but it happened in the wrong moment, which made everything weird and shoujo-like.

My favorite ending was supposed to be a bad one, this explains pretty well my opinion about this whole route: seeing the innocent Airi become a cruel queen was really cool, way more than the bittersweet White world good ending.

I’ve started playing the Black world side with Kanon’s route.

Everyone seemed to like Luna as an heroine way more than Airi, but I just like them equally: I don’t think Airi was always boring and I don’t consider Luna so interesting and flawless either; they’re both good, very different but nice.

Kanon was a tsundere, so being coupled with Luna created a lot of tsuntsun scenes I really enjoyed; their relationship was cute, there was an unexpected plot twist in the end which made everything serious and emotional.

His ending were all interesting: I enjoyed seen a grown up version on him, but maybe my favorite overall was the Black end one; the main problem was solved way too easily tho, the writer decided to choose the easy path and cut everything in a simple way.

Nello’s route was amazing.

At first he didn’t look like a type of character I’m usually interested in, but I soon realized he had something to hide… and wow, it was really heavy stuff, I was shocked.

I loved this route, no doubt it was better than the previous ones: it never bored me, not even for a second. Maybe I should have played him even later? For sure, he’s better to save him as one of the last characters, to have major shock.

Snow’s route was really flawless to me, my favorite of the game.

I loved him from the start and my love just kept growing: I admit it, I’m weak for butlers and caring boys in general, but his route was really sweet and also interesting plot wise.

His Black ending also felt like the true conclusion of the whole game.

I think it’s the first time I play a character voiced by Masuda Toshiki! I like his voice, his laugh most of all, so I hope to see him in more otoge in the future.

Lastly, I played Jack.

I was really curious, since everyone loves him… and it’s not difficult to understand why! He’s really cute, but also cool when his eyes become cold and serious; you can clearly feel his devotion for Luna, even if he expressed his feelings in a awkward, embarrassing way.

This route had a perfect balance of funny and sad moments, it was well written and never boring!

I still don’t understand why all the reviewers suggested to play him last, since his endings are nothing special… probably because he’s the most popular?

Playing a character you loved last is sure a wise choice to leave you a sweet aftertaste when you end a game, but I don’t think it’s the perfect ending… honestly, I wished I had played Show’s black ending last, instead.

It’s too late for me to go back, but if you still have to play this game…. well, I warned you! 😉

Would I recommend Shiro to Kuro no Alice?

I have mixed feelings: I enjoyed most of it, but a couple of routes were nothing special.

Overall it wasn’t bad at all, the characters were interesting and the plot had good writing; maybe the problem is just mine, because my expectations were too high and I was a bit disappointed.

I thought this could be an amazing game, maybe the best of this year, but it’s actually just average… which is not necessarily an insult, it was still fun to play, most of the time!

I wouldn’t go as far as recommend it, but still it’s worth giving it a try… do it for Snow and Jack, they deserve all the love in this world!

I was curious about this otoge. Thanks for the review 🙂
I don’t have high expectations for otoges anymore xD
I mean, I know that it’ll be impossible for me to like ALL the charas in the game. So if I like the art, the plot and people who wrote the review says it’s okay to buy and play, I’ll go for it mostly of the times.
Even with Amnesia was like that. I don’t like Ikki and Toma 😡 (I know you like Ikki) but I didn’t have high expectations.
    I really hate the feeling of wanting to play an otoge so badly and the game is a bad one ;-;

Liking all the characters is not easy, because there are usually the typical 5/6 tropes and it’s impossible to appreciate equally all of them!
What attracts me to a game is mostly the art and the setting, but what really remains in my mind when it’s over is the overall feeling, not just a character; if a game is really good, with amazing writing and interesting plot, when I’m done all I think about is “wow, this was a masterpiece I won’t forget easily”. At least, this is what happened with my favourite games!
In the end, it’s a matter of tastes, there are also people who just grow attached to a character and not to the game itself…

    True!!
It was like this with Glass Heart Princess. I loved the game so much. I liked the charas, the plot was interesting and funny, and the art was amazing as well *-*
