Even if I suffered a lot with Charming Empire, I’ve decided to try another mobage port, since it was getting localized and sold on Steam.

Gakuen club has a simple school setting, even if there’s something like an hidden host club too.

I started this game without any kind of expectations, I’ll be honest: I was just blinded by the cute art and I wanted to play something easy and quite plotless to kill time.

Did I waste my money again?

Well, not completely.

I started from Asahi’s route, since I can’t resist KENN’s voice.

Even if he’s not my type, I admit some scenes were cute and I loved seeing him blushing for any kind of physical contact he had with the heroine.

He apparently fell in love with her since they first met, which is kinda stupid, but he’s so sweet I can’t even complain. I stared at the kiss CG for too long cause it was beautiful, I admit it.

I wish I could see more of their future together, they are a nice couple!

Toma’s route was completely different, since he’s cold and difficult to approach at first.

Actually, it’s almost creepy how all the school girls follow him around and try to talk to him, while he just ignores them. I don’t get how they could keep insisting like that, he was rejecting them all almost brutally!

When he started opening up, I fell in love like a little school girl. Literally.

He has a mischievous side I wasn’t expecting at all and his smile made me melt every time.

This route was kinda sad for his difficult past, but I was glad to see him overcome his fears and become an happy person, he deserved it! He became more self confident, sweet and caring. He’s a perfect boyfriend material!

Then, I went into Wataru’s route prepared for the worst: I was sure he was going to be the typical bitchy shota, who keeps insulting the poor heroine while sounding and looking like a 10 years old.

But I admit it was way better than I expected!

I can’t say I liked him, he’s not my type at all, but he was cute when he got jealous and blushed.

Saku was pleasing to play, since it’s unusual to find such a mature character in a school otome game, where everyone fits into certain stereotypes that may end up annoying.

Usually, in these settings smart boys are excessively shy around girls, but it didn’t happen here and I enjoyed our conversations.

I was surprised to know about his writing talent and I sincerely admired his skills, since I love reading a lot and his personality would attract me in real life too.

He was introverted, but still nice and pleasant to talk to.

Sadly, at some point appeared an annoying bitch who ruined this route turning it into some angsty teenage drama and my attention declined a lot; I wish I could have spent more time with him talking about books instead of childhood trauma and bad parenting.

Renji was completely different from my expectations, which is not necessarily bad.

I was expecting a playboy, always surrounded by women of every age, who didn’t have any intention of falling in love seriously.

But behind his appearance, he was hiding a darker past and personality: his smile was just a mask to cover his true feelings and it fell immediately as soon as he started talking about his lost sister.

Even if he was a siscon and he acted rude sometimes, I admit I was attracted to that sudden change in his attitude and I didn’t think his devotion to his sister was too annoying.

Come on, his dearly sister died and no one told him what happened, it’s just obvious that he kept thinking about it and he wanted to know the truth… how can people blame him?

I think he’s a passionate a devoted brother, I appreciate this feeling.

It was a sad route, but I loved it.

My last route was Yuya and leaving him last was a good choice: I was starting to get bored of this setting and I needed something completely messed up to make me interested until the end; this was perfect since he’s completely crazy.

Really, I’m not joking, there’s something wrong in this dude’s mind.

He became aggressive and creepy for no reason and he seemed obsessed, but after looking at me like he wanted to cut my body into small pieces he said “I’m sorry” with teary eyes expecting me to fall in love anyway.

I guess his family problems made his brain deteriorate or something, but I don’t want to deal with his random rage for sure. Yeah, he’s cute when he blushes, but I’m not falling for it.

So…. was it a kusoge as I expected?

I admit it, when I bought Gakuen Club I thought I was just wasting money, but somehow I ended up enjoying a few routes, so it wasn’t a terrible mistake. Nor THAT terrible, at least.

I still enjoyed it more than The Charming Empire, which was a complete disaster.

I wouldn’t recommend it anyway, there are plenty of better school games… but still, if the price drops a lot, this can be good enough to kill time when you want to play something that doesn’t need much concentration with deep plots or difficult kanji.

But maybe it’s just me, I always play otoge in Japanese and it feels relaxing if I can play in English from time to time, without making my head hurt or my eyes burn with ancient kanji.
