My life, my hobbies, my real self

Otome games are moving to Switch, what am I going to do?

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve written my last otoge review, but it doesn’t mean I’m not playing lately: my Ikemen Sengoku review will be ready in a few days!

In the meantime, let’s talk about the recent happenings.

As you probably know, Otomate is moving to Switch and we can assume everyone else will follow their lead soon. Rejet is going to make announcements next week and I expect them to choose the same path (if they keep making games… who knows, maybe Iwasaki has other plans now).

So, what am I going to do from now on?

I don’t have a Switch yet, but my boyfriend was planning to get it sooner or later (he’s a huge Nintendo fan). I guess we’ll probably buy one by the end of the year, or at the beginning of 2019.

Cendrillon Palika looks amazing, I’ve been waiting for the release since it was announced, there’s no way I’m going to miss it! Maybe I’ll be late to the party, but I’ll come sooner or later.

I’ve read various opinions about Otomate’s decision: as expected, while someone is happy, the majority of people are complaining or even deciding to drop this hobby… and I perfectly understand why.

I’ll be honest, I was kinda disappointed too.

Switch is an amazing console, no doubt about this, but giving up my dear PsVita is not easy at all; also, the price is still high, it’s not a console I can buy without thinking too much about money.

We all knew it was going to happen soon, but accepting this kind of changes it’s not so immediate: as you probably noticed, I still can’t get rid of my PSP completely, after so many years.

I’m that kind of person who holds dear any item connected to memories, so I enjoy going back from time to time to my low screen resolution, to remember how my passion for otoge started.

You can expect me to play on my PsVita for still a long time, since my backlog it’s not so easy to clean in just a summer.

There are also a lot of PC games releases lately, maybe I’ll try to catch up with some of them: playing on PC hurts my eyes easily, but I can slowly go through some good titles.

What are you going to do? Are you happy about the move to Switch? Are you planning to buy it?

Tbh I was surprised when I heard about the switch to the Switch (sorry for the pun :P). I actually wanted to wait until I would be done with college before buying a Nintendo Switch because I’ve really wanted to play “Legend of Zelda: BOTW”. But if I bought it now then I’m not sure if I would be able to graduate www. So I’m thinking that I will buy it in one year then :).

That’s a wise choice! there are still a few games on PsVita, let’s try to clear our backlog in the meanwhile! (who am I kidding, it’s impossible anyway)

Haha I know that feeling of having a backlog I can’t finish :’) *looks at my shoebox filled with 11 otome vita games* ( /”口”\ ). It also doesn’t help that it takes me almost a year to finish just one game ww. How long does it usually take you to get through and write a review :)?

        • otomeland

I usually play about 20 games every year, but it depends on the game! some are longer (Lost Eden took me 2 months) others are short (Klap fun party was about 30 hours long, I think). I usually write my reviews as I play, so it’s ready almost immediately when I’m done with the last route.
          What are you playing now?

I’m currently finishing up Norn9 so that I can play Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly in Japanese ! It recently came out in English but I had bought both Psychedelicas in Japanese before so I want to finish those before getting back to other games . I try to write reviews as I am playing but they end up so long! Are you able to buy the games in English, or do you always just play them in Japanese? And what game are you play :)?

    • otomeland

The Psychedelica series is so good, I’m sure you’ll love it too! ^^
I usually play games in japanese, because I can’t wait for years for an english release that might never come! (or be in bad quality)
The only games I’ve played in english were The Charming Empire, Nightshade and Hakuouki. Now I’m playing Ikemen Sengoku for PsVita, since I don’t play mobage and I never got the chance to try it. I’m so glad it was ported to PsVita!

Wait if they are moving to switch and also they are stopping physical games are they going to stop the vita system? Like are they going to stop the system itself or make it so the vita won’t work anymore?

    • otomeland

Games aren’t going to be released anymore for PsVita, but obviously the console itself will work! I mean, I’m still playing with PSP, they can’t come to my house and crash it physically! XD but of course, there won’t be more updates!

      • Elli

what happens if there are no more updates?

        • otomeland

I guess the psn store won’t work anymore, you won’t be able to download other games, and maybe even the trophy gallery, but I’m not sure… I never download from psn, so it’s not a problem! I guess you won’t be able to play online games…

          • Elli

But otome will still work? because I plan on getting a couple games if I can still play games like otome and games that don’t require internet im good.

Of course otome games will work! I’d be in hell otherwise, I still have like 15 games to play! XD
