I’ve been wondering for like a month if I should post this “review” or not, since I decided to drop this game after 2 routes; I’ve also asked for opinions on twitter, to know if writing a review makes sense, when the player hasn’t completed it.

I’ve received mixed opinions, from “you really have to experience the WHOLE game, to make your opinion valid” to “if you dropped it, this is already a review because you clearly didn’t enjoy it”.

I guess a good deal is calling this an “impression” instead of a proper review.

Well, if you’re still somehow interested, let’s start with this, whatever you want to call it!

I’ve always been curious about Abunai Koi, mostly since I love solving mysteries and dealing with criminals, but also because Teita’s art is always blinding, so I tried to give this game a chance.

Knowing it was originally a mobage, my hopes were kinda low for character development and decent writing, but the characters looked interesting enough when I first met them.

Akechi Masaomi seemed my soulmate, since his determination in avoiding overtime and going straight home at 5 pm were honestly a big mood I held dear when I worked in a boring office years ago. His coworkers weren’t happy about that (and so were mine), but he doesn’t care at all and I really applaud his attitude. It turned out, he goes home early because he’s doing house chores and cooking for his 3 twin sisters!

I always appreciate men who love cooking and taking care of their family, who doesn’t?

I admit the crime they were solving wasn’t that interesting, the writing was lacking as I expected and the route itself was embarrassingly short, I think it was over in 2 hours or even less.

What disappointed me the most, is that his confession was so short, I barely understood what was happening! I swear! The were on a date, but as soon as they reached the place he said “I like you” and done, it was over! Not even a kiss CG!

While I was raging, I restarted the game, realizing there was actually a “Part 2”.

Which means, you’re kinda getting a FD that starts from the first route.

I would have preferred a whole route, but I guess the mobage was like that and I’m the one to blame for playing this game, so ok, I accepted this and moved on.

Kenji was loud, while speaking with an obvious Osaka accent, and he loved drinking with random women; he seemed to enjoy girls’ company a bit too much, but somehow he wasn’t the type to have a real relationship. In fact, he turned out being kinda awkward at expressing his feelings.

I guess he’s used to talk to women, but not to fall in love? Maybe because of his job? I don’t know.

Anyway, despite liking him, I realized I wasn’t enjoying at all this game, to the point that completing his route seemed more like a chore than something I enjoy doing in my spare time for fun. You could think it was the character’s fault, sometimes it happens: there’s a route we find boring and we end up dragging the game, but it turns out worthy when we finally get to date another character we end up loving a lot.

Sadly, it wasn’t the case.

I think the main problem were the pacing and the writing, I couldn’t feel involved in the crimes they were investigating and I ended up paying attention only to couple scenes, which weren’t that developed, and the CGs were too rare to make my effort worth it.

The system really felt like I was playing a mobage, since the route was divided in short chapters; it gave me a sense of fragmented, not fluid, but most of all not properly developed.

It felt unpolished and cheap, which is a pity since Teita was involved.

I hate dropping games, it just happened a few times in the past (maybe I’ll write about it in the future), but I realized I was wasting my free time for something that made me bored.

Some people told me to “force myself” to complete it anyway, so I could write a proper review, but since I’m doing this for passion and not for money, honestly I felt it didn’t make any sense.

Also, even if bad reviews are useful, so my readers can save their money and avoid landmines, I want to contribute to the otome game community by spreading the love for games I enjoyed, instead of complaining about how I wasted my money and time.

So, that’s it. Sorry, I know it’s not that much, but this is my blog so…… forgive me, if I feel free to write this kind of useless stuff, from time to time.
