Otome games questions!

As promised, I’ll try to keep my blog alive from now on, even when I’m not posting reviews!

I’ve asked my friends on twitter for suggestions and the most voted option was “write whatever you want”, so…. here I am, answering a few questions!

1- VERY FIRST VIDEOGAME

Let’s keep it otome game related: Brothers conflict passion pink. I guess it’s not a mystery anymore, I’ve talked about it plenty of times!

2- YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER

The first who comes to my mind, whenever I read this kind of question, is Amnesia’s Ikki.

He was one of the first characters I really loved and he always has a special place in my heart.

3- A GAME THAT IS UNDERRATED

There are many, I guess I’d go for an old one: Princess Arthur.

All I read were bad reviews, but I enjoyed it a lot: I liked the heroine, the characters and also the plot; I even got emotional and cried for the side characters, which is really rare for me.

4- YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE GAME

Diabolik lovers. Judge me if you want, but I still can’t drop this series.

5- GAME CHARACTER YOU FEEL MOST LIKE (OR WISH YOU WERE)

Wait, these are 2 different questions!!

I wish I was elegant and lovely as Glass Heart Princess Kyoko, but I’m more like Trigger Kiss Futaba; sometimes people can’t understand my humor, I’m sarcastic and a bit cynical. I swear I’m not a bad person anyway, I’m just…. not ordinary and a bit difficult to approach!

6- MOST ANNOYING CHARACTER

How can I choose only one? There are too many, sometimes even among main characters.

Let’s say Diabolik Lovers Cordelia, every time she appeared on the screen I was like “are you still alive, you bitch?!”

7- FAVORITE GAME COUPLE

Kyoko and Shinnosuke from Glass heart princess, they were born to be together; a dreamy couple!

8- BEST SOUNDTRACK

I loved Reine des Fleurs BGM, the music in that game was stunning.

9- SADDEST SCENE

I don’t want to spoil, but… THAT Kokuchou Psychedelica scene. The Kagiha one, I’m sure you know what I mean. I cried a lot!

10- BEST GAMEPLAY

Otome games have similar gameplay, but some are more complicated than others; I usually don’t like mini games, unless they are related to the plot like the utapri ones.

I can tell you for sure 2 gameplays I hated: Brothers conflict and Wand of fortune.

Those systems were so annoying!

11- GAMING SYSTEM OF CHOICE

Well, otome games have similar systems too; but I can tell I hate timed choices, if I’m not mentally prepared I end up missing them and having to load from the last save, it gets on my nerves!

12- A GAME EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY

Black wolves saga: great plot, great characters, it’s a masterpiece for me.

Also, I think it’s good for people who think otome games are just fluffy stuff aimed at little girls; let them try this, they’ll regret it for life!

13- A GAME YOU’VE PLAYED MORE THAN 5 TIMES

None! I don’t even have time to replay, sadly… I think I’ve played twice a few Brothers conflict route tho, before entering otoge hell and having a neverending backlog; if I remember correctly, I’ve replayed Kaname, Fuuto and Tsubaki.

14- CURRENT WALLPAPER

15- POST A SCREENSHOT FROM A GAME YOU’RE PLAYING RIGHT NOW

16- GAME WITH THE BEST CUT SCENES

Well, otoge don’t have cut scenes, so I’ll just talk about 2 moments that deserve a mention:

  • BWS: this game has so many unforgettable scenes, I don’t even know where to start; let’s talk about Julian, when he reveals his “true personality”. I don’t want to spoil, but there was a shocking and unexpected scene, which really stuck in my mind. I’ve never realized Hosoya Yoshimasa was such a great seiyuu until I heard him change his voice while begging “please, praise me”. That broken voice is really something every otome game player should hear.
  • 7’scarlet: before playing, I didn’t know there were cinematic scenes and it was an amazing experience! it’s rare to see animations in otome games, and those few seconds in the beginning were really perfect to make me immersed in the mood of the game.

17- FAVOURITE ANTAGONIST

Collar Malice… “Adonis”. Let’s call “it” like that, to avoid spoilers. I really had no clue until I reached the end, I was almost shocked… best antagonist ever!

18- FAVOURITE PROTAGONIST

Code Realize Cardia. It was nice to see her growing and becoming confident and strong.

Futaba from Trigger kiss was funny too, she really voiced my thoughts… it’s the first time I completely agree with an heroine’s reactions!

19- PICTURE OF A GAME SETTING YOU WISH YOU LIVED IN

Period Cube. It may be dangerous, but it’s beautiful!

20- FAVOURITE GENRE

If we talk about otoge, I prefer dark themes, deep plot and mystery.

You can tell just by reading my “top 10 recommended games”, fluffy stuff is not for me!

21- BEST STORY

Wow this is really hard, there are a few with a great plot!

I think my favourite is Black wolves saga, because it’s the only otoge which made me ignore the romantic part: I was completely absorbed by the plot and by the character’s psychology, it didn’t even felt like an otoge at all. As the story progressed, I was captured by their amazing personalities and I just wanted to know more!

It made me suffer so much, but it was worth it.

22- A SEQUEL THAT DISAPPOINTED YOU

Kamiaso infinite.

I enjoyed the first game, it wasn’t great but still good; sadly, the sequel was kusoge level: short routes, no real plot and everything happened so fast, it didn’t make sense.

An example of terrible writing which destroys a story with good potential.

23- BEST ART STYLE

I appreciate many artists, but Satoi is my favourite. When I see her art, it’s an istant buy for me!

24- FAVOURITE CLASSIC TITLE

I guess Amnesia is a classic now? I’ve seen the anime even before knowing otome game existed and it’s a series I’ve always loved, it’s special to me.

25- A GAME ON YOUR LIST TO PLAY

ONLY ONE?

I’d go for Yunohana spring then, I want to play it soon! it looks funny, I need something brighter because I’ve been playing too much of my usual depressing and creepy stuff lately.

26- BEST VOICE ACTING

The first name which comes to my mind, is Kaji Yuuki voicing Kanato.

It’s really difficult to act such a disturbed character: he has to change tone rapidly when Kanato’s mood change for no reason, cry randomly, scream like crazy… it must be challenging!

27- MOST EPIC SCENE

How can I answer this without spoiling?! Let’s just say, Hijikata’s ending in Hakuoki…. when the meaning of the name “Hakouki” is explained.

28- FAVOURITE DEVELOPER

Rejet.

Sometimes I hate them, sometimes I love them… sometimes they disappoint me, as it happened on the last streaming. But I still have hopes, maybe they’ll come back with a new epic game next year!

29- A GAME YOU WERE SURPRISED YOU LIKED

7’scarlet! I didn’t even buy it at first, I’ve just became curious after reading my friend’s tweets and decided to see if I was really missing something…. I WAS! I didn’t expect to love it so much, but it was an amazing journey, totally worth playing.

30- FAVOURITE GAME OF ALL TIME

Can I just answer with 2 titles?

Black wolves saga and Kokuchou no psychedelica.

Don’t ask me to choose, they are both masterpieces to me!

I’m finally done answering all the questions, it took me a few days, but it was fun!

I hope my answers were interesting enough, I’ll probably try something similar in the future!

My bank account is crying, aka the merch I bought in Japan

As promised, here I am showing you the merch I’ve bought while I was in Japan!

When I was there, everything happened so fast, I didn’t even realize what I was buying and how much I was actually spending: at night, I just went to the hotel to drop things and sleep, without having time to look at them properly.

Most of the stuff was just packed immediately to make space in the room, so I ended up forgetting about it immediately; when I came home, opening the packages was almost a surprise!

This is what I saw, when I unpacked my luggage…. and wow, did I buy all of this?

Let’s look at it closely, so I can explain the prices and why I’m not as crazy as I seem to be.

I mean, if I’d imported all this merch, my poor bank account should be bleeding by now… but I was in Japan, and I love smart shopping, so it’s not bad as it seems.

Let’s start with the games.

Why did I buy an old PS2 Hakuouki? The answer is simple: I got it for 250 yen.

How could I leave it there? I had no physical copies of Hakuouki, since I downloaded it from the PSstore and played it on my PS3, so I thought it would be nice, having something I could show too.

I got Project Diva because it was cheap, too: only 900 yen.

I’ve never played this game, and if I can still use my old PS3, why not!

Now, let’s take a look at otome games.

I bought Shinobi koi utsutsu FD on the release day in a Trader, and I spent about 5300 yen.

On the same day, I also bought Utsusemi, even if I’m probably going to regret it: 4630 yen is still too much, I know it’s not worth it…. but it’s still less expensive than importing.

I’ve bought Yunohana Spring and its FD, because they were 2nd hand and quite cheap (as you can see, less than 2800 yen each): I’m sure I’m going to have fun, it seems a bright game and I miss hearing KENN’s voice.

Vamwolf cross was a mistake, I know: but where else can I buy an otoge for 1280 yen?! Even if it’s a kusoge, I’m not going bankrupt for that price, so let’s try!

I don’t remember clearly how much I spent for Hana Oboro, if I remember correctly it was about 3500 yen… but I wanted it, it looks interesting, so it seemed a good deal.

I’ve been looking for Norn9 Last Era since last year, but I couldn’t find a cheap copy: I’m not a great fan of this series, so I wasn’t going to pay full price for it; 2880 yen it’s ok!

Lastly, Bad Apple wars. I remember seeing a 3000 yen copy last year, and thinking: “nah, it’s not worth it!”. But I saw a 1780 copy in a Trader this time, and since it’s going to be localized soon, I guess I’ll give it a try.

When will I play all these? Who knows.

Now, let’s talk about other merch.

Isn’t this cute? I’ve spent about 1000 yen, but I love it! Sakuya is my favorite Norn9 character, he deserves all the happiness in this world!

I also got a Norn9 bag, which I decorated with my badges.

This is the first bag I make, it’s not perfect but I did my best, be kind please!

Thinking about it… why I got so much Norn9 stuff? I guess it’s because the hype in Japan is dying, and they are selling the remaining merch at low prices; I’ve spent 1000 yen for the bag and that giant Sakuya badge was about 50 yen.

I haven’t much to say about the magazines, I just wanted to buy the new DGS while I was there; same goes for Voice stars, I saw Aoi Shota on the cover and KENN, it was enough.

If you want me to show you what’s inside, just ask!

I don’t know if some of you is an Arashi fan as me, but I bought a few old albums in a Mandarake and their newest single. (I spent 750 yen for the album, 100 for the single, 200 for the book).

I’m not a drama cd fan, so I only got this Bad Medicine one, because it was just 100 yen; for the same low price I got God’s star single, which I actually really wanted, because it’s the theme song of my trip: me and my friend wanted to sing it at karaoke like crazy, since the first time we heard it!

Let’s talk about tapestries and posters then.

In Ikebukuro there were many stores who sold similar merch, but with terribly high prices; usually, the cheapest are around 3000 yen.

But since I’m a poor person, I looked in everyone of them, until I found a store with reasonable prices: here I bought these, for 1000 yen each:

Let me take a second to appreciate the ikemen shop assistant, if I remember correctly he worked in the Otome road kbooks: he looked like an idol, so I randomly went there to ask him about merch (using my terrible Japanese of course)! Sorry, I’m a shallow person.

One last thing I’m really proud of, because finding BWS merch is not easy:

That’s all, no action figures this year.

Before leaving, I told myself: “don’t buy too many otoge! Go for rare items you can’t purchase from Italy!” but I ended up buying too many as usual.

I can’t help it, I’m not a person who buys high priced merch without feeling guilty, I’m more the type of person who buys lots of stuff because I can’t resist sales and cheap prices.

I honestly don’t care if something is 2nd hand, (as long as it’s in good conditions, of course), so all those Stellaworth sets and limited gadget didn’t interest me… why should I spend 10000 yen for a game, if I can have 5 instead? What matters to me it’s the game itself, not the cover.

Of course, I’d like signed stuff too, but spending lots of money for something I can’t even use it’s not for me; most of the badges I’ve put on my bag costs 100 yen, with a few exceptions, while I’ve seen ultra rare ones sold for almost 30000 yen. (I swear, I’m not writing wrongly).

Just look at this:

I get it, it’s signed, but….

Anyway, this is how all the shops looked; this pic come from a Trader in Akihabara, my favorite one.

Look at the otome section, it was amazing!

If you want me to show something more, or if you have questions, feel free to ask everything!

My Tokyo trip (23rd sept- 1st oct 2017)

I’m back from my second trip to Japan and it was way better than the first one: I had lots of fun, I bought too much otoge merch and I’ve seen many amazing places. Life seemed easier than last year, probably because my speaking skills improved and I could communicate easily with people. (for my friends who don’t know, I’ve self studied Japanese and my speaking skills are bad… like, really terrible! But I’ve worked on it before leaving, improved a bit, and this time I could have at least decent conversations!). Also, the weather was really nice, it rained just one day… a completely different experience, compared to the constant rain and suffocating humidity of last year.

I arrived in Tokyo on a Sunday morning, after the usual day-long flight.

I thought it would have been a lot more crowded, but there weren’t too many people around; my hotel was in Asakusa bashi, a quiet zone I personally like a lot, because it’s far from the most chaotic places, but still close to Akihabara (which I could reach just by walking) and Ueno.

After my first stop at a near konbini, to eat something and try to look like a decent human being, I went to Akihabara to officially start my trip!

Akiba was amazing as I remembered it to be, I started shopping like I was in paradise! (I’ll do later a separated post about the merch I bought). I missed those shops, I remembered each one of them immediately, as if an year didn’t pass at all. Walking the same streets again made me so nostalgic!

(don’t mind the wrong date and hour, we were just too lazy to set the correct ones! yes, we’re terrible adults like that)

The next day, was dedicated to Ueno’s zoo.

I’ve been to Ueno’s park last year, but I didn’t have time enough to visit the zoo too, so I took the chance this time; it wasn’t small as I thought, it took me about 4 hours to see every animal.

I’ve never seen a tiger so closely! The lion was amazing too! My personal favorite was the polar bear tho, it was adorable!

Then I went to Rejet’s main office, where I took lots of pics! Well, there’s nothing interesting there, but I just wanted to see that palace with my own eyes…. at 7pm, the lights were still on both floors, they’re working really hard!

(There’s a restaurant right in front of the palace and the owner looked at me like I was a crazy stalker LOL)

I went to Odaiba for dinner, it was very cool! The giant robot and the illuminations really impressed me. Sadly, I didn’t have enough time to explore it, I just went to a few stores, had dinner, and everything closed at 9 o’clock! It’s a pity, but time really flies, there are too many places and I can’t stay there for too long…

The 4rd day was dedicated to Ikebukuro: the otome road, the Animate, book offs, Rejet shop… it was a long, busy day that made my wallet cry, but my soul was really happy!

Stellaworth was amazingly beautiful to see, but so expensive I couldn’t even touch the merch, let alone buy it; I’m sad I couldn’t take photos, it was like heaven… and there were all the Dynamic chord’s members signs! (I admit I stared at them way too long!)

Sadly, Thursday wasn’t as good: it was raining a bit, so we decided to visit Nakano Brodway, which is indoors.

There are mostly manga and action figures there, since there are plenty of Mandarake which sells 2nd hand merch at low prices. This kind of stuff doesn’t interest me a lot, but there was also a shop full of otome related stuff and I did some good shopping! Also, I bought a really cheap ps3 project diva game, which I can’t wait to play soon!

In the late afternoon, we planned to visit Ueno’s and Asakusa’s book offs, but it was raining really hard and I decided to give up; I spent a quiet evening relaxing and tasting weird snacks we bought at the near konbini. I honestly needed a quiet time, after all that endless walking for hours everyday!

On Friday, we went to Asakusa to buy presents and explore all those traditional streets. It was really amazing, the weather was perfect and I really enjoyed my time there.

When we’ve been at the temple last year, it was raining so hard I could barely take some pics; this time, I had no problems visiting every temple and shopping! The atmosphere there is really soothing, it’s crowded but still respectful.

We went to Sumida next, the river at sunset was a very pleasing sight.

I loved the Skrytree too, but I admit I preferred the Tokyo Tower: it was way taller, but still…not as romantic? I mean, for me the Tokyo Tower is more symbolic.

On the last day, I went to Shinjuku. Sadly, I couldn’t enter the Otomate store, because I needed to make a reservation………. and it honestly unnerved me.

I get it, I need to reserve for the Otomate cafe, it makes sense, but why for the store too? It was almost empty, there would have been absolutely no problem if I just walked in, buy some stuff and exit a few minutes later! It’s not like I’m planning to stay there for one hour, come on!

Otomate doesn’t want my money, probably.

At least, I saw the giant Godzilla at noon, with the “fire” out of his mouth!

After that, I spent my last afternoon and evening in Akihabara, where I bought my last merch and went to karaoke with my friends.

I had so much fun, we even took videos of us singing Quartet night’s God’s star! I don’t think I’m ever going to watch them again, I would probably die of embarrassment…….. but it was worth it, the perfect conclusion of an amazing trip.

I was really sad, when I started packing to go home: I loved Japan even more than the last time, and I really wished I could live there.

Maybe I will someday, who knows?

In the meanwhile, I can still enjoy going there from time to time; I don’t think this was my last trip, but it’s still too early to plan another one. Maybe in a couple years, I’ll walk the streets of Tokyo again!

Otomate party 2017 wrap up

Otopa is officially over, let me take a break from fangirling to actually write a wrap up post!

1- As many of us hoped, Collar Malice is going to get a sequel! This isn’t actually a huge surprise, this title is very popular and some kind of announcement was expected. But still, an amazing news!

2- Nil admirari anime will air in spring 2018!

I admit it’sooner that I expected, we already have a first trailer.

3- Shiro to Kuro Alice is getting a new game

4- New game (kind of) 真紅の焔 真田忍法帳 Kurenai no Homura Sanada Ninpou Chou

illustrated by: Shiki Sakigumi

Cast: Suwabe, Sugita, Okitsu, Suzumura, Hoshi

Well, this was actually already announced last year, but then it disappeared immediately (like Variable barricade), so it’s still somehow new!

5- Diabolik lovers Haunted dark bridal + More Blood PS4 Port.

As many of us already expected, Otomate is going to port their most popular titles on PS4; we all thought Amnesia was going to be announced, but it’s actually Diabolik Lovers!

6- Varriable barricade still exists!

We all wondered if it just silently disappeared, but finally the cast has been announced: Umehara Yuuichirou, Okamoto Nobuhiko, Nojima Kenji, Shimono Hiro.

7- A new game with mafia/Italy/island theme, illustrated by RiRi.

The cast is: Kimura Ryouhei, Ishikawa Kaito, Toyonaga Toshiyuki, Morikubo Shoutarou, Okamoto Nobuhiko.

(let me LOL at this because I’m Italian and I expect a lot of Italian cringe stuff!)

I’ve read the newspapers behind the characters, the italian is actually almost decent so: “It’s a land controlled by 3 organizations. The main character, Lily, has a mysterious stone with a stamp on her chest (sorry, the phrasing is weird). I’ve been raised in a monastery in that city and my mind is alive (I guess they mean she’s not corrupted by mafia) even if mafia controls the city. Lily lives in a neutral zone. Why is she aimed at? why is she protected? there’s pressure on the city and it’s a dense zone.”

8- A new game about Roses of Versailles.

9- New game with a Cinderella theme.

Cast: Hino, Uchida, Hanae, Okitsu, Sugiyama, Toriumi, Namikawa.

10- A new game illustrated by Teita

11- Tengai ni mau, Iki na hana

12- A PC project in 3 games

I’ve never thought I’d see otomate going for PC releases, maybe they’re trying to branch out since they still don’t know what’s the future of otome games after Psvita.

Most of the releases I’ve listed are going to be for PsVita, while others are going to have a dual release, also for PS4. I’m surprised to see there are no mobage, but I’m also relieved.

I hoped to see any kind of announcement about Psychedelica, but I guess it’s still too early for a 3rd game; I also hoped for a Collar malice anime, since it’s so popular.

Anyway, I don’t complain at all, this year’s Otomate party was really exciting and better than last year’s , there were more announcements and most of them seem promising!

Disclaimer: I haven’t been at the event myself, all the info I wrote here and in my previous posts come from various reports I’ve read and translated from twitter and otomate’s official site. Check it out to know more http://www.otomate.jp/event/party/newtitle/

Otopa day 2: day session

The day session of Otomate party day 2 just ended, and there were some interesting announcements:

1- Nil Admirari anime will air in spring 2018!

I admit it’sooner that I expected, we already have a first trailer.

2- Shiro to Kuro Alice is getting a new game (still don’t know if it’s a sequel or FD).

(I’ve barely completed my first route, but I like it so far, so I’m happy!)

3- New game with a Cinderella theme.

Cast: Hino, Uchida, Hanae, Okitsu, Sugiyama, Toriumi, Namikawa.

4- New game: 真紅の焔 真田忍法帳 Kurenai no Homura Sanada Ninpou Chou

illustrated by: Shiki Sakigumi

Cast: Suwabe, Sugita, Okitsu, Suzumura, Hoshi

Well, this was actually already announced last year, but then it disappeared immediately (like Variable barricade), so it’s still somehow new!

I hoped to see any kind of news about Clock zero, I’m a bit disappointed… anyway, let’s wait for the last session, since they are obviously revealing the most exciting stuff on the last event!

Edit: I’ve been asked to credit with my sources, but I honestly don’t have a specific one, it’s just what I’ve read here and there on twitter.

Anyway, the account I rely to the most is: @kinako1137 if you want to check out the news for yourself!

Otopa day 1 announcements!

Otomate party day 1 is over, let’s take a look at today’s announcements!

1- Diabolik lovers Haunted dark bridal + More Blood PS4 Port.

As many of us already expected, Otomate is going to port their most popular titles on PS4; we all thought Amnesia was going to be announced, but it’s actually Diabolik Lovers!

2- Diabolik lovers new game

This series still seems to be really loved in Japan, despite many fans probably getting tired of the unending sequels and FD… but it seems like we are not going to get rid of it soon!

(I have mixed feelings about this, since I still have to play Lost Eden… also, why wasn’t it announced at Rejet’s event? Iwasaki was like “no more new games, we have no money”… I guess Otomate now is in charge of everything about this series.)

3- Varriable barricade still exists!

We all wondered if it just silently disappeared, but finally the cast has been announced: Umehara Yuuichirou, Okamoto Nobuhiko, Nojima Kenji, Shimono Hiro.

4- A new game with mafia/Italy/island theme, illustrated by RiRi.

The cast is: Kimura Ryouhei, Ishikawa Kaito, Toyonaga Toshiyuki, Morikubo Shoutarou, Okamoto Nobuhiko.

(let me LOL at this because I’m Italian and I expect a lot of Italian cringe stuff!)

5- A new game about Roses of Versailles.

These are just the 1st day announcements and there are still no PV so far, but they are going to be available tomorrow for sure. Don’t be disappointed if your favorite game didn’t get a sequel/FD yet, there’s still tomorrow and the best announcements are still to come!

We all know Collar Malice is going to get a sequel for sure………….

Oumagatoki Kakuriyo no enishi

I wasn’t going to write a review about Oumagatoki, but I decided it could still be useful to save some poor wallets so…. at least, I’m going to write a short opinion about it!

I admit it, it’s not a complete kusoge: I’ve played worse stuff, which was so terrible I couldn’t even force myself to complete a route. (like Gakuen K for example… that was tragic).

Oumagatoki’s worst problem is the bad writing: it feels like only a couple characters have a proper route, with a decent plot and character development, while the others are there just as fillers.

I’ve started with Hayate, who was one of the lucky few with an interesting route, so I can’t complain about him: he was nice, there were cute moments, and when I reached his endings I was asking myself why so many people went as far as calling Oumagatoki a kusoge.

But it didn’t take me too much to understand.

Souta was meh. His route could have been interesting if he had good reasons to justify why he didn’t want to go back to the real world, but he was just “I don’t want to be a normal person, here I’m cool, I have great powers, I have girls around me!” and that was a huge turn off to me.

Yoimiya was just the typical sensei who denies his feelings for the student, until he goes “whatever” and tries to get her…. but she never understands, because this heroine is really useless.

Sorry, I didn’t like her much and the fact that the guys don’t even say her name made everything worse…. plus this route didn’t focus at all on the character’s tragic past, but more on random ayakashi attacking them and that’s why most of the time it was just plain boring.

I had great expectations for Tsukishiro, because he was the god protecting the Kakuryo.

Sadly, he was disappointing: he didn’t care at all about the world he was supposed to protect and he seemed to be more interested in the heroine just to increase his powers.

In the ending, Kakuryo is magically saved anyway and he’s also in love with her!

This game has no consistency and logic, I don’t even care enough to complain about the plot holes and the lack of character development.

Tokiwa is the main character, his route is the only one written properly, so I won’t spoil: if someone still decides to play this, even after my terrible review, just leave him last; he’s actually cute and interesting.

So……… do I recommend this game? Obviously, NO.

But it’s not even a complete kusoge: a couple routes were good, the art is nice…. well, I have nothing else good to say about it.

If you find a very cheap copy (and I mean REALLY cheap), maybe you can still give it a try; but if you can spare your poor wallet kun, it’s better just pass this game.

Yuukyuu no Tierblade: Lost Chronicle

When Tierblade was announced, I wasn’t very interested: I don’t care about Gundams and the system looked pretty terrible, so I was already imagining myself wasting a lot of time to collect all the junk to obtain the platinum, and it wasn’t nice.

But my friends loved it, and I started regretting my choice; also, my inner Evangelion fan was curious to see if it was psychological and intriguing, so I finally gave up and bought it for my birthday. Well… it was a good present for myself!

At first, I was really excited: I loved the common route and the robot battles didn’t bore me at all; the stuff collecting that worried me was easy, I just had to visit certain places and pick them up.

I loved how all the routes showed a different aspect of the whole story, I truly wanted to go on and understand more and more about the truth: that’s something not all the games can do, and that’s what makes the difference between a “normal game” and a “good game”.

Tierblade got my interest in every moment of every route, there was nothing predictable!

Well, at least for the main characters. After Row, it all went downhill for me.

I’ve played Sud first, and I don’t regret it (even tho starting with Atharva could be good anyway).

I loved his personality, that’s what made him look like “the main” guy in my eyes.

It was nice to have someone I could always trust, even if he wasn’t that strong, he always did his best to protect Eve and make her feel loved; guys like him are pure gold.

Atharva’s route was sad and psychological, despite him having a funny (and embarrassing!) personality: maybe, it was overall the best route for me, at least I got my bits of emo stuff like I expected from this Evangelion-like game.

Yajur was…. wow. I don’t even know where to start, and I can’t spoil, so…. let’s just say it was unexpected. I don’t agree with Eve’s decision, even if I can understand her opinion: she’s too nice, my reaction probably would have been similar to the “true” Eve’s… am I a bad person? I can’t forgive easily………. I mean, let’s think about the poor onii chan! He was literally an angel.

Row was my favorite character, no doubt. I loved him since the moment he made his first appearance, he’s completely crazy and so desperate… how can you not love him? His life was hell!

Maybe I’m biased, but he also got the best CGs and the sweetest scenes, at least his route didn’t lack emotions at all.

After a few routes, I admit I started getting tired of the Tierblade battles, but I was curious until the end, because Cradle got his own route, even if he’s just a robot!

I was waiting to see how he could become human and what his appearance would be… well, let’s say I’m disappointed.

The writing here just gave up any kind of logic, and most of the time I was just ???? wtf am I playing ??? wtf did just happen ??? WHY??

I don’t understand how Otomate could approve this nonsense… after 4 great routes, with good plot, amazing characters, perfect writing, why trying to ruin everything in the end?

A route for Cradle could have been sweet and interesting, but…. not like that.

I basically spent 2 hours skipping, going through flashbacks, and then when I thought something good was about to start…. I got THAT.

I had a similar problem with the True ending: after all the patient skipping, my expectations were let down terribly.

It was so boring I was almost falling asleep, I was even missing the only important lines (about Gil) because I honestly didn’t care anymore: the fight scenes started to look all the same and seeing Arcadia defeated so many times obviously wasn’t interesting.

Despite the bad aftertaste left by the last 3 endings, I have to say I overall enjoyed the game, and I’m going to play the FD for sure.

All the endings were too short and didn’t explain deeper what happened next, to the characters and to the world around them, so I’m still curious to know more; also, I liked all the characters and I’ll gladly meet them once again. Well, the wait is short for me, since it’s going to be released soon!

Toki no kizuna Sekigahara kitan

I’ve played Toki no kizuna for the first time years ago, when I was still a newbie to otome games and my japanese was very basic: needless to say, I couldn’t understand most of the dialogues, so I ended up dropping it after a couple routes.

My knowledge of japanese history was also non existent, so even if I used a guide I couldn’t enjoy it at all: I spent most of the time looking at those old man speaking, asking myself wtf should I care about their wars instead of spending time with the boys… and I figured out that forcing myself to play it until the end was just a waste of time.

Years later, I’ve decided to pick it up again, to figure out if my tastes changed and I could finally enjoy this game.

Was it a good idea? Well…. yes and no.

Since I’ve started, I understood clearly why I had so many problems with those kanji: I can read them now, but games like this make our poor gaijin crazy!

My first route was Shin, because he was the only one I managed to complete back then too and I was really curious to see if my reaction changed.

I still had some flashbacks of the most important scenes, but overall it felt like playing a new game to me, and I enjoyed it at the fullest.

The plot was interesting and the characters too, Shin is also my type, so I was very happy about my choice!I also told myself “how could I hate this game?! It’s so good! The tragedy, the feelings… everything melts perfectly together!”…at least, this was my first impression, but it didn’t last too long.

Kazuya was amazing and I understand why most of my friends love him: you can clearly tell he’s a sweet guy, behind his stoic attitude. He reminds me a bit of Hakuoki’s Saito, this kind of character seems always to be the most popular!

Well, I can’t deny he’s good husbando material, his romantic scenes were really touching.

Chitose’s route had plenty of funny moments, he’s also really cute and I liked him as a character!

But………. well, at this point I started to get really bored of all the endless talking about wars.

I get it, it’s an historical game, I was prepared fot military strategies and actions scenes, but…. it’s still an otome, the plot shouldn’t push aside the relationship completely!

When the demons attacked, every scene started to look the same and they became very repetitive and boring, so I just put the autoplay and did other things while I heard the same stuff happening over and over again.

Kazutake was deeply affected too, sadly I couldn’t enjoy his route enough for this reason.

Also, I admit he’s not my type: he keeps protecting the heroine because she’s a woman, but…. hey, she’s strong! She can fight on her own, let her be!

I appreciated his concern, but it became almost offensive, since Yukina was trained and had no problems at all to defend herself.

Senkimaru needs to be played last, because his route features all the side characters who appeared in the previous routes, and also has huge reveals about the real plot of the story, explaining the heroine’s past and the villain’s true goal.

I admit I was expecting a similar revelation, but still it surprised me, so I liked a lot how this route was completely different from the others.

So…… did I regret my “replay”? (If I can call it like that)

I don’t regret it at all, it was overall a good game, but there are some lacking points too.

The good points of this game are:

  • all the characters are interesting, and they have great seiyuu too;

  • some routes will make you cry and feel emotional;

  • the art is amazing.

The bad points are:

  • too much war stuff; some routes are basically made ONLY of that.

  • After the first run, nothing is really surprising. Even if the characters are interesting, many scenes give a deja vu feeling and it feels boring; (Senkimaru is the only exception)

If you decide to play Toki no kizuna, keep in mind that it’s more and “adventure game” than an otome game. Of course, there are romantic scenes too, but the focus is more on the plot (which is not even interesting, if you don’t care about japanese history and wars).

Even if I love plot-centric games, and the tragic ones most of all, I still find it difficult to keep my attention up for all the route: for example, the actions scenes when the main characters fight with the demons, honestly looked all similar in every route and I stop caring after a while.

I’m going to play the fandisk for sure anyway, because I loved all the boys and I need some cute moments with them, they deserve it!

Haitaka no psychedelica

Before I’ve started playing, I’ve decided to write a review about Haitaka, because I knew from the start it was going to be a game I would have loved; but then, I realized it’s too easy to spoil someone, and I don’t want to ruin anyone else experience.

I’m just going to write here my overall opinion, because sharing it on twitter is basically impossible.

First of all, I loved the medieval setting: it’s unusual for an otome game, but it was well handled and also quite realistic; the BGM also worked pretty well to create the atmosphere.

The characters were all interesting, everyone of them had something to hide and it was addicting to find out what leaded to the current situations, where the game starts.

Some reveals were shocking, as expected from the Psychedelica series, which always has an amazing plot and writing: characters who seem perfect, sometimes are not, while characters who look like villain, have actually a kind heart; or at least, they had it at some points of their lives.

I enjoyed this game a lot, but……….. well, it’s not flawless. Kokuchou was on another level for me, I couldn’t find even a little complain about it, while Haitaka had weak points too.

I didn’t appreciate that much all the useless talking I had to make for the whole common route: I understand that it helps to know better all the sub characters and also the situation of the village, but some of those small talks just felt like a waste of time.

Things like “what’s your favorite food” or endless talking about how everyone hates witches (I understand it’s important, but it gets really repetitive after the 3rd/4th time you hear it), get annoying quite easily, after a few hours.

I wasn’t satisfied with the endings too, I felt like there was some potential which was suddenly cut: just when the situations is getting worse, the characters find an easy solution to solve the problem and the game ends. Lavan was the most offended by this, I think he could have been way better and I was expecting something more from the vibes I got from him while playing the common route. Only Levi had a decent conclusion, at least it made sense.

Maybe this issue could have been solved by making this game a bit longer, but for weird reasons the writer seems to prefer to keep this series quite short; Kokuchou felt even shorter to me, but maybe because I loved it so much, that I just played it faster than I should.

Anyway, complaints aside, I highly recommend this game to everyone: the Psychedelica series is now one of my favorite, and even if it’s heartbreaking, I’m sure most of the players can enjoy it!

Be ready to cry, get shocked, upset, sad… but also, to experience an amazing story, which will make you drown in feelings much more than a typical otome game.
