I’ve decided to put white and silver hair in the same TOP10, since there’s not much difference and I want to avoid any kind of complaints! XD

He may act like a psycho sometimes, but he’s just trying to make Eve happy, after all the pain they suffered.

When he opens his beautiful eyes, you can feel all the pain he carries inside.

He acts playful and outgoing, but he’s really fragile. He deserves more love!

2 Subaru – Diabolik Lovers

He may seem difficult to handle at first, but he hides his sweet personality behind a tsundere attitude. He loves and respects Yui from the bottom of his heart, you can clearly see his love when he looks at her!

1 Sakuya – Norn9

His story was sad, but also sweet and emotional; all I wished was to see him living happily with Mikoto!

It’s time to celebrate a trope I personally love, but some people really hate: oniichan in otome games! Their obsession can be disturbing, I understand why someone could be disgusted by a brother loving romantically his little sister; but we all have different tastes, so if you like them as I do… here’s my TOP10!

10- Hanate- 7’scarlet

The protagonist’s brother, who mysteriously disappeared. He always protected Ichiko since his childhood days.

9- Soshi- Charming Empire

A grumpy oniichan, who acts rude most of the time, pretending he doesn’t care at all about his sister.

It takes a lot of effort for him to reveal his feelings.

8- Shin- Shiratsuyu no kai

Even if they aren’t related by blood, he’s a brother figure and a guardian for the heroine.

Despite being rude sometimes, he always took care of her… until he reached his limit.

When he couldn’t stop his feelings anymore, he became a creepy yandere, forcing himself on his sister without caring about her.

7- Nobunaga- Hana Oboro

Strong and ambitious, he’s ready to destroy villages and kill everyone who he stands on his way.

But when it comes to his sister, he’s just an overprotective older brother…….. with yandere tendencies. You’d better be careful around him.

6- Masato- Moshikami

You can love him or hate him, but you can’t deny how memorable his actions are: everything he does is so sick and crazy, you won’t ever forget about him.

If you play Moshikami, he’ll get stuck in your mind forever.

5- Ryoushi – Taisho Alice

He tries to appear cool and distant, without showing his true feelings, but he secretly cares a lot about his sister Yurika; he tries his best to please her and help her when she’s in trouble, even if his pride doesn’t allow him to show his weakness.

He technically isn’t her brother, but her cousin… which is even creepier somehow, since they are blood related. But how can we judge him? His feeling are strong and pure, he’s ready to sacrifice his life for her!

1- Nesso- Black Wolves saga

Nesso will always be the best oniichan ever: he has been in love with Fiona since childhood and he’s not afraid to show his feelings for her; he doesn’t care if he seems desperate or embarrassing even in front of their father. He’s her knight, always beside her, to protect her life.

In almost every game, there’s a flirty ikemen who loves being surrounded by girls: his good looks and playful attitude make him very popular, and he obviously keeps flirting with the heroine too.

Even if most of the games have a “canon” route, with a character who is supposed to make a “perfect couple” with the heroine, sometimes we end up preferring someone else.

These are my favorite couples in otome games!

10- Snow bound Land- Gerda/Kai

Kai is like a prince: gorgeous, sweet, gentle… he matches perfectly Gerda’s elegant appearance!

9- Shiro to Kuro no Alice- Luna/Snow

Snow is patient and sweet, even if Luna is difficult to handle sometimes; but he always stays loyal, even against everyone else!

8- Brothers Conflict- Ema/Fuuto

This may be an unusual couple, since Ema is older, but I really liked their interactions: Fuuto loved to tease her and act mischievous just to make her blush!

7- Yunohana Spring- Yunoha/Kintarou

Kintarou has been in love with Yunoha since childhood days, but he was too shy to confess.

He always supported her dream, even if he knew they would be separated.

6- Nightshade- Enju/Gekkamaru

Gekkamaru is devoted and loyal to Enju, regardless of their status; he’s ready to give up his life just to be by her side.

5- Tierblade- Eve/Row

They were destined to be together, even if it took them so many years; Row lived just to meet her again and he needs to be finally happy.

4- Code Realize- Cardia/Saint Germain

Saint Germain got used to be alone, living eternally without knowing true love; Cardia is really similar, that’s probably why they understand each other so well.

3- Piofiore no banshou- Liliana/Dante

Dante looked cold and unapproachable most of the time, but all he needed to blush was Liliana’s smile.

The gap moe between Dante’s serious mode and those cute couple moments was amazing!

Ikki acts like a cool playboy, but he’s actually sweet and fragile; he wants to be loved more than anyone else, and the heroine gives him the warmth he desperately needs.

When we play otome games, we tend to focus more on the boys.

But the true protagonist is the heroine, who often has to suffer a lot before reaching an happy ending; some of these girls have an amazing personality, which deserves to be celebrated!

Here’s my TOP10 Otome games heroines:

10- Aru – Princess Arthur

She was just a simple girl, yet she had to become a fierce queen. The battlefield is not an easy place to be, and the war always brings tragedy, but she accepted her destiny and became stronger.

9- KanU – Jyuuzaengi

 

She’s one of the strongest in her village.

Don’t underestimate her because she’s a girl, she kicks ass!

8- Haruka – Moshikami

It’s not easy being the heroine of Moshikami, which is probably the most violent and tragic otome game ever.

I pitied her a lot of times for all the pain she went through, even as a child, but she never gave up and fought to reach happiness.

7- Jed – Haitaka no psychedelica

She’s been forced to hide her gender and true identity, but she was always strong despite the pain and tragedy.

6- Nadeshiko- Clock Zero

The traumatic events which happened to her at such a young age obviously made her confused and scared, but she kept fighting and trying to solve the situation. She was determined and always tried to take action, even if she had to make difficult decisions.

5- Ichika – Collar Malice

If being involved in criminal cases wasn’t enough for a young girl, she also had a collar around her neck, reminding her she could die any moment; but instead of being scared, she kept going on to find the truth.

4- Enju- Nightshade

Despite the tragedy of her story, she never gave up to her fate and kept struggling to defend her life.

3- Futaba- Trigger Kiss

Her witty attitude and cynical answers were so funny, she really knew how to stand up for herself. And she was also a great fighter!

2- Cardia- Code Realize

She had the best character development I’ve ever seen: at first she was just an emotionless doll, but then she learned how to love herself and the others; she opened up, and learned the value of friendship; she suffered a lot, but she could forgive. An amazing person, a strong personality, for a bittersweet story that reminds us how we all deserve to be loved.

1- Cyrus- Steam Prison

She always fights to defend her beliefs, even if she’s putting her life on the line; she was positive even in the worst situations and she always tried to survive on her own, without relying on someone’s help. Her fate was terrible, but she never cried or asked to be saved, she took action even if everyone was against her. She’s a great example of determination, honesty and mental strenght.

“Tsundere” is probably the most popular trope in otome games and it’s not difficult to understand why: how can we resist them, when they blush and act all embarrassed? They are too cute!

He’s very strict to himself and the others, but he’s also a loyal knight.

9- Blackish house- Gou

He’s so afraid of girls, he can’t help but blabbering and going crazy every time!

8- Kanon- Shiro to Kuro no Alice

He’s the typical tsundere who pretends not to care, while he actually cares about the heroine a lot, and you can clearly tell by his actions.

Being coupled with Luna, who is a tsundere heroine, created a lot of funny interactions!

7- Kagerou- Otoko Yuukaku

A tsundere in a brothel? Well, it may seem weird, but he had his own reasons to be there.

He was unexpectedly pure and his tsundere attitude made him really stand out among manwhores.

6- Mage- Dance with Devils

He may act rude and careless, but he’s actually a sweet, innocent boy.

5- KakouTon- Jyuuzaengi

He’s really difficult to approach at first, but if you gain his trust, he’s a loyal and faithful man. He says he hates women, but he just doesn’t know how to handle romantic situations!

4- Yukito- Glass heart princess

He tried to act cool and uncaring, but then he rescued little puppies… and he kept blushing, how can you not love him?

3- Takeru- Collar Malice

He’s exceptionally smart, but his asocial personality and rude attitude make him very difficult to approach. He doesn’t show easily his feelings, even if he cares about Ichika and his coworkers a lot.

I admit it took me a lot of time to fall in love with him, the first game wasn’t enough, but when I saw his sweet and teasing side, I realized how great he actually is!

When he’s not breaking walls out of anger, he’s actually a sweet guy. He’s probably the purest of the whole series and it’s not easy for him to admit his feelings, due to his sad childhood.

1- Kyousuke- Storm Lover

He’s the king of tsundere.

His route was amazing, even his sister was making fun of him for overreacting at everything!

His exaggerated reactions made me laugh like crazy and when he was embarrassed for every little thing, he was too cute!

Who’s your favorite black hair boy?

Osananajimi (or childhood friend) is a very popular trope we can easily find in almost every otome game; most of the time, they have been secretly in love with the heroine for years and tend to become obsessed about her. In extreme cases, they even show their yandere side.

Here’s my top10 childhood friends!

1- Shinnosuke- Glass heart princess

Shinnosuke and Kyouko met when they were children, in a really weird situation: Kyouko was kidnapped and he was given the role to guard her until the gang received the money from her father. It’s not a classic start for childhood friends, but it’s the moment that changed forever both of their lives.

2- Suzuya- Starry Sky

Kind and reliable, he gives everything he has for his loved one. His zodiac sign is Cancer, as me, so I know really well how he feels!

3- Kintarou- Yunohana Spring

Positive and passionate about his work, he gives his all when he’s in love!

4- Sakuya- Norn9

He’s always been in love with Mikoto, but decided to hide his feelings to protect her. But he’s not going to give her to anyone else, that’s sure!

Who’s your favorite childhood friend?

If you’ve barely started playing otome games and your japanese skills are still very basic, don’t worry: there are many good otoge for beginners!

From my experience, I suggest you to start with school themed games: the language is simple, the plot is usually easy to understand and there’s a great use of hiragana, that can save your life until you get used to more difficult kanji.

Some games you can try are:

Starry Sky

A classic. Many of us started with this series, probably also because if the anime!

It’s very innocent, if you expect any kind of sexy situation you’ll be disappointed; but if you are looking for something sweet and enjoyable, this is a must play!

Storm Lover

My personal favorite, I’ve played all the 3 games and I still have many sweet memories; it’s mostly simple school stuff (lessons, tests, events, school trip) but funny, I highly recommend it if you’re looking for boys with a unique personality. The characters’ interactions are pure gold, some of the dialogues made me laugh like crazy!

Brothers conflict

My first otome game ever. It’s very easy to understand, but the system may be annoying, so I recommend you to use a walkthrough to get the good endings.

The brothers are adorable, so it’s definitely a recommended game!

Utapri

I bet everyone already knows about this series, because of the famous anime.

Even if there’s also the smartphone game, I suggest you to start with the original games for PSP or PsVita ports. There’s mostly hiragana in the text and the dialogues are easy to understand for beginners, don’t worry!

Even if you are just approaching to the language, don’t wait too much until you start playing: learning is a neverending process, if you wait until you are “ready”, you’ll never start!

Among all the characters tropes, “yandere” is probably my favorite: I can’t never predict his actions, sometimes he’s scary and possessive…. that’s why he always makes a game interesting.

Creating your own virtual world so you can marry your sister? Why not! And who cares if other will suffer! Well, at least that’s what a true yandere would think.

07- Balder, Kamigami no asobi

His sweet smile and angelic appearence may be deceiving…. he’s actually really jealous and possessive!

06- Lindo, Dance with Devils

He loves Ritsuka more than himself, but sometimes his affection goes overboard… you can clearly see he’s obsessed.

05- Kenshin, Ikemen Sengoku

If someone gets too close to you, he’s going to start a war and kill them all! It doesn’t even matter if you agree or not.

04- Wabisuke, Gekka ryouran romance

How can a sweet brother chain you up in the basement of your school? Well, it happens, if you play a Rejet game.

03- Toma, Amnesia

That cage scene was iconic.

I bet everyone who saw the anime or played the gamewas shocked, we would never expect a childhood friend to suddenly act like that. Sure, he loved the heroine, but…. he really went to far.

02- Natsume, Ephemeral fantasy on dark

I’ve played a lot of bad boys, but I never imagined one of them would threaten to cut me into pieces and eat me. All he said and did was creepy, I was even scared to be alone with him cause he totally looked like he could stab me or disfigure my face so I would become ugly and no other man would fall in love with me. I’m not even exaggerating, he said something along those lines.

If you ever played this game, you know what I’m talking about; he’s really on another level, he can even set his own parameters, like “how yandere is that character, on a scale from 1 to Masato”?
