Dance with devils

When I first watched the anime of Dance with Devils, I wasn’t really impressed: I didn’t appreciate that “musical” feeling, it seemed completely random to me; honestly, seeing demons singing while fighting, made me laugh; when I knew that the game was going to have the same art of the anime, I was even more disappointed.

For this reasons, at first, I decided to skip this game.

Many of my friends seemed to like it tho, so… when I was shopping in Tokyo, I’ve seen a quite cheap copy and bought it out of impulse. And I don’t regret it!

I’ve started with Shiki’s route and I enjoyed it very much: obviously, the anime spoiled me almost everything, but I didn’t feel a sense of deja vu.

He was creepy as I expected, but he’s my type of character after all!

There were sweet scenes, creepy scenes, bloody scenes… and I loved every moment. The Devil’s ending were really bloody and cruel, I wasn’t expecting all that gore… is this really Cero C?

Anyway, it was really a good start, so my hopes suddenly raised higher for the other characters too!

Mage’s route was different than I imagined, but in a positive way.

I wasn’t very interested in him after the anime, he looked like a predictable tsundere; but he was actually more interesting than I expected!

His 2nd human ending was very sad, I appreciated it so much and it broke my heart… I wasn’t completely satisfied with his other endings tho, I wanted more blood and tragedy. (I’m such a bad person, I know).

I had so much fun when Urie and Shiki were deceiving him, and Mage believed everything immediately! How can you trust them!? come on! This was absolutely hilarious!

Urie was another character who didn’t catch my attention in the anime, but I immediately fell in love while playing. I didn’t expect his route to be so sad: he had an interesting complex towards Rem, and I wish it was explained better.

His family was terrible, when he talked to his mother I had a Cordelia dejavu which got me agry and sad at the same time.

I was always suspicious towards him, but he turned out to be really loyal and faithful in the end!

I also liked Ritsuka in his route, she tried to resist and didn’t fell for him immediately.

But who wrote the 1st human ending? It was really stupid… I mean, Rem simply gave up and that’s it?! I thinks it’s supposed to be a proof of true friendship, but… what about Rem’s responsibilities? He’s not just getting the grimoire for himself, and he can’t decide as he wants!

I preferred the sad endings, even if they were bad. At least they made sense.

Rem is supposed to be the canon, since both the anime and the musical pushed him as the “true” soulmate for Ritsuka. But types like him just can’t catch my interest, and unfortunately my opinion about him didn’t change, while playing: some scenes looked like they came straight from a shoujo manga, and it’s not what I expect when I play a Rejet game.

I also couldn’t help but feel bad for Lindo, honestly he deserves much better.

At least Lindo’s route was awesome, so I’m not complaining at all about it!

I loved both sides of him: I was melting when he acted like a gentle and perfect oniichan, but I also thought he was really cool as a sadistic vampire.

There were all the endings I was waiting for, even a tragic one who shocked me; I’m also happy that Ritsuka could start anew alone, and live a new life while trying to forget the past.

Is it just me, or Rejet put a special effort to oniichan’s route? Or maybe I’m just oniichan trash, that’s why I always appreciate them.

Roen’s route was good, I really liked him: he’s probably my 2nd favorite, right after Lindo!

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think it’s the one who put at better use the dummy head mic: the sound was somehow better, and it was used in the perfect moments!

I probably would have loved him even more if I didn’t play his route last, when I was already tired of the game and I wanted to get it done fast.

Would I recommend this game?

It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s better than I imagined.

The anime didn’t leave a great impression on me and I still wonder why Rejet decided to use the anime art in the game too, but overall I can’t complain about the plot or the characters. (I didn’t like Rem, but it’s a matter of tastes, his route wasn’t bad as it seemed to me… probably).

I don’t think it’s worth the full price, but if you find it on sale it may be an enjoyable purchase!

2017 otome games releases

2016 is almost over, it’s time to focus on the games that will be released next year! \(^o^)/

I’m already sure I’ll buy some of them, while for others I’m still waiting to know more before deciding.

January will be an empty month for me: Hana hoboro and Orfleus don’t interest me, so I prefer to focus on clearing some of my backlog instead; there are also two ports, Utapri and Black wolves saga, but I’ve already played both of them.

Anyway, if you’ve never played BWS, this is your chance: don’t miss this amazing game! I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Diabolik Lovers Lost Eden will be released on February 16th, and I’ve already decided to get it; am I just wasting money? Only time will tell.

I haven’t played Harukanaru and I’m not interested, so I’m passing on this.

March is going to be a busy month for my wallet!

Taisho Alice is getting a FD, Heads and Tails, which is going to be released on the 10th; ; I’m probably going to buy it, because I’ve enjoyed the first game.

Klap!! is getting a FD too, scheduled for the 30th, and I cant wait to play it! It’s such a fun game, I loved it and I was hoping for a FD!

I’ve never been a great fan of Wand of fortune, so I’m passing on the port; I won’t be playing Side Kicks too, I don’t trust Extend anymore tbh.

There are also many other games which look interesting, but still don’t have a release date.

Chouchou Jiken

It looks good, and it may be also interesting; I’ll keep an eye on it.

Ikemen Sengoku

https://youtube.com/watch?v=n21dhGuf-zE

I’m not into historical games, so I’ll pass.

Osomatsu san: the game

I enjoyed the anime a lot, but I’m not interested in the game; Pass.

Shiro to kuro no Alice

I wasn’t interested at first, because the Alice theme always seems overused to me; but some of the weird CGs managed to grab my curiosity, so I may give it a try.

Fortissimo

Has Otomate forgotten about it? Give me Fuuto again please!

Kenka bancho otome FD

I haven’t played the first game, so I’ll pass.

Meiji Tokyo Renka Dance Party

I’ve already played the other 2 games, I think that’s enough for me. Pass.

Nihil Admirari no tenbin FD

I’m absolutely going to get this one! the first game wasn’t perfect, but still good. I can’t wait to play Shougo again!

Shinobi Koi Utsutsu FD

This was unexpected, but I’m glad! I think I’ll play this, I enjoyed the first game.

Utapri Dolce Vita

…. no, thanks. I’ve sit through 4 utapri games, and I still have to play All star and After Secret. I’m not ready for another one, and I’m not going to give Broccoli my money again.

Variable Barricade

This looks as the most interesting game Otomate announced at Otopa this summer.

I’m going to try it for sure!

There are also other games announced, like Yuukoku no Perseus or Akatsuki no Betelgeuse, but there’s literally no info about them, so I can’t even say if I may be interested or not.

Which games are you looking forward to the most?

Princess Arthur

119

Princess Arthur is a game that most of the people seem to ignore or underestimate, that’s why I’m really excited to write this review: I want to let you know that it’s not bad, at all!

The plot isn’t that original, I admit it; for those who know at least something about King Arthur, the story may seem predictable, or even stupid, because the heroine is the one who extracts Excalibur.

Anyway, the characters were all really interesting to me, and I loved how the story developed; I sincerely liked the side characters too, and that’s something that doesn’t happen so often to me.

The heroine is probably the best part of the game: she’s strong and she can fight, but at the same time she’s so fragile and emotional, when the real war begins and she has to face death for the first time! Usually, I’m not interested in wars or fight scenes (that’s why I get bored easily when I play historical games), but I could empathize with her so much, that I even ended up crying.

I wish I could describe better the moments that made me emotional the most, but I want to keep my reviews spoiler free; I just need to tell you, that I’m not a person who easily cries while playing games… but it happened here, even in the common route.

The first character I’ve played was Mordred: his route ended up being my favorite, because there are so many plot twists I couldn’t predict at all! I didn’t know anything about his role in the Camelot reign, I admit I’m not very expert about the original legend; this was even better for me, because I absolutely had no clue about his true personality and the story became even more interesting to unfold.

Galahad was a nice surprise too, I expected him to be a boring kuudere, but his route was actually quite entertaining; his personality changed a few times, while getting closer to the heroine: he became more tsundere at first, then he even gave me some yandere vibes in the end, which was interesting.

Lancelot was supposed to be the main character, but I probably liked him the least. His route felt almost like a love triangle, because Ginevia was always around him and their relationship was suspicious: the poor heroine was wasting her time being jealous, and I didn’t like it. Also, he was way too serious and boring for me, he’s not my type!

Gawain was really fun to play, he fell in love with the heroine at first sight and from that moment he randomly blushed and got embarrassed…it was too cute to see, this route was one of the best for me!

I wasn’t that interested in Tristan at first, because I’m not into ojisan characters; but I’ve decided to give him a chance anyway, and I didn’t regret it. His route felt more original than the others: he didn’t live in the castle, so there were a lot of different scenes and places, with unpredictable funny events that made it memorable.

I’ve played Merlyn last, because he was obviously one the most important characters. His route was really good, there were many emotional scenes and I could even feel some pity for Morgane, I can’t believe it! I hated her in other routes, but I think at least I could understand her a bit more. Also, he probably got the best CGs! it took me a while to appreciate this style, but once I got used to it, I really loved how different it looks.

Do I recommend this game?

Yes, absolutely!

If you like medieval themes and war/historical settings, you will enjoy it for sure; but even if you aren’t usually fascinated by these kind of plots, like me, you will probably end up loving every character anyway!

The heroine is great too, I’m sure you will appreciate her effort and empathize very easily with her emotions. The CGs may look weird sometimes, but it will take you just a few time to like them; also, I’m really glad that they didn’t appear just in predictable moments, but their timing was quite original and captured unusual scenes too.

If you’re willing to give it a chance, be prepared: you will suffer and cry, but also to have a lot of fun!
